I have gone with DD, which I can cancel if I cant get through on the phone.:rotfl:0 -
I'd strongly advise anyone taking up this offer to use Direct Debit, as you should in theory be able to cancel quickly and directly with your bank instead of jumping through Setanta's hoops.
Paying the £1 by credit card, on the other hand, means you're at Setanta's mercy. There's nothing much you can do to stop them charging more money to your card in the future. Having read some of the other threads on MSE about Setanta, I'd hate to be in that position.0 -

Very good option I did the same its a shame for people who subscribe to the service via DD or CD dont do it peeps make sure your in control of the situation if you are going to take them up on this offer. You'll get quite a few letters asking for payment for the account should you cancel your direct debit.0 -
I've ordered for the footy and racing over Christmas.
I've subscibed using my debit card / direct debit and so when I give them a months notice to cancel, I will also cancel the direct debit same day so they can't take anything if they try.
So if you do do banking online, subscibe and cancel the DD your end!
Cheers OP ... Boxing Day racing is ace0 -
Just off the phone to them....first she says my code doesn't work cos I'm in Northern Ireland.....then after a heated debate about geography, she apologises about my location...then wants to take all my details and process it that way....I say I'd rather do the online thing and be in control of my details...she says the only way I can get the offer is "Online"...I say your code doesnt work she says "give me your details"....I say I want to do it online but the code doesnt work...she says give me your details...I say all I want to know is, if theres a problem with the code, my location or whatever...starting to sound like the typical Setanta bull...she says just keep trying the code....I say I have been...she says try again tomorrow....I say whatever.....
watch out everyone....I can see a whole big Setanta debacle starting again....make sure you def cancel...AND check your bank statements meantime....looks like its going to be a disaster waiting to happenI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

Subscribed nearly an hour ago but no signal yet. I am using Sky.
Does the phone line have to be connected to activate it as mine is too far away and has never been connected.

Torby, does the code you tried to use appear in the N.Ireland edition of the Mirror?
If so, you could contact the Mirror's customer services (I have found them very good in the past) as this is clearly a problem they need to address.
If not, it may be worth looking in a N.Ireland edition of the Mirror to see if it's a different code for N.Ireland customers - it could be something that simple.0 -
yup,,,swmbo bought the paper this morning....and the bmbo at setanta said Northern Ireland was included....but she needed a geography lesson....however she could still be wrong listening to all the problems people have with setanta and their cs staff and associated knowledge...lol
so anyone else from N Ireland trying....I tried using Firefox as well by the wayI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

just sent this off to Setanta:
I have to say I, (along with many other disappointed Northern Ireland customers) am quite surprised that Setanta's advert in todays Northern Ireland issue of the Daily Mirror are unable to avail themselves of the opportunity to try Setanta for 2 months.
I have looked at a number of forums where this offer has been mentioned and I am surprised to see the number of Northern Ireland posters who are unable to subscribe to this offer ...their code "2001" shows as invalid.
I am inclined to believe that its something to do with how your system is set up and automatically disallows Northern Ireland customers to get this offer. On phoning customer services I was informed that this offer was only available online BUT they would take my details over the phone.
In view of the increasing number of complaints and problems between subscribers and Setanta (just read the main UK forums) I am wary of divulging my details....especially when it should be done via a secure online process.
I hope this is not another case that you advertise one thing and do the other...by the way, I was advised to "keep trying " the code....I suspect if its to do with the system setup I could try the code for the next 2 months and still not get the offer.
I will be posting a copy of this AND any reply on all the major UK forums.
I look forward to your response
got an auto reply saying I should have a response in 5 days....or I could ring a number...guess what....the numbers are to "signup"....lolI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
