So how come everything ive bought from E-Bay was sent by normal post? what proof is this of delivery?
There is no proof of delivery but as an honest buyer you are not likely to make a false claim, and that is what most sellers rely on.
The rules on paypal are clear and my campaign is to get users to understand how paypal works so that they can make their own informed decisions about how much risk they will take. I understand and accept the need to prove delivery in case of a chargeback, however I chose to send my items via standard post, unless the item is more than £34 and then I'll automatically send it special delivery. So assuming I send 100 parcels a month sending them all recorded would cost me an extra £70, so instead of using recorded I self insure and use that saving of £70 to refund any buyer that claims non delivery. My actual rate of claims is currently very very low, maybe one in every 600-700 or so (although it does vary and Christmas usually starts to cause me problems).
I understand and fully accept that by using standard mail I cannot win a chargeback and so if a buyer claims item has not arrived I refund and reclaim my losses from the Royal mail. I do not however start flapping around moaning that paypal have cheated me..to do that I would have to accept that I have been negligent in understanding the risks.
Also it is worth reading some of the other threads on here about the possible problems with recorded delivery not actual being signed for which makes me happy that in my case, and in my case alone as it is a personal risk, I am right in not bothering with it. Just sending an item recorded will not stop a paypal chargeback, it must show as delivered, but then that is a problem with RM and not paypal. I have for instance a case at the moment, sent a very expensive item special delivery which I understand has been delivered but which does not track online. My frustration is that at any point in the next 6 months if the buyer turned dodgy (and of course I have no reason to suspect he will) I would lose a chargeback. Again though the problem here lies with Royal Mail and not paypal.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Oh hes fully aware of what im doing. i told him 2 weeks ago that i was going to sell it on ebay, he even sent someone round to finish off the job, but even he gave up after 20 mins and done a runner. i wouldnt mind, but the work he done to date is very good. and he only had a few bits left to do.
as for why he wont finish the job i dont know. he refuses to speak with me now.
Ive given him plenty of oppertunity to collect the saw, so as he's not collected it it now belongs to me.

Quite so, however technically the plumber has abandoned his property and it is now being stored at the OPs address without prior consent.
The OP is within his rights to advise the plumber he will charge a storage fee for the item, and then should the storage fee exceed a named amount, the item will be sold to recoup storage costs. The plumber is given 28 days in writing to recover his property, subject to successful payment of the storage fee. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

OP: your listing is still an invitation to be stitched up, if not entirely sawn up.
But you're not alone. I continue to be baffled by the number of sellers who put cash-on-collection OR PayPal when they could just as easily omit the PayPal option.
Yes, I offer PayPal on all listings where I'm posting out. But I've never listed, or sold, a large and / or expensive item on a collection-only basis with a PayPal payment option.
The vast majority of buyers like PayPal listings because they're reassured that the goods they cannot see from a seller they don't know will turn up -- or, if they don't materialise, or are significantly not as described, then PayPal will cover their risk.
But a collection-only listing allows a buyer to meet the seller and see the goods -- and walk away there and then if it's iffy without paying a penny (and never mind the subsequent neg.)
I'm pretty certain I've never lost a collection-only sale because I declined to accept PayPal.
I am sure, however, that (a) I made a lot more money because I didn't have to cover PayPal's commission and (b) that I took a lot less risk by having cash in hand.0 -

It's not that simple, you can only charge storage fees if you tell people about them up front.
Too often people threten to seize assets that don't belong to them without realising that in many cases doing so is simply theft and thus exposing themselves to huge legal problems.0 -
That's exactly what I said. The OP puts this in a letter and offers the plumber the right to pick it up or fees will be charged. ¬_¬It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

The plumber still has an equal chance of winning his saw back given the ebay item number :rotfl: :rotfl:0

So when paypal ask you for your online proof of delivery using one of their only approved methods your receipt is going to help how exactly?
Please can we be clear how to keep ourselves safe on paypal. This myth that gets perpetuated that a written receipt or even a photograph of the person collecting item (like pullipreats says I have also seen that suggested elsewhere, daft as it may seem) will NOT work. These are the only methods to prove delivery that paypal accept:

Question : Answer :</IMG> The following options may be used:
- Parcelforce Worldwide
- Royal Mail - Special Delivery
- Royal Mail - Recorded Signed For
- Royal Mail - International Signed For
- Royal Mail - Airsure
- UPS
- FedEx
- Airborne Express
- DHL
This requirement could not be clearer, it does not allow for any other forms of proof. Without one of the approved methods of proof of delivery a chargeback claim will be lost, no argument, no appeal. I really don't know how many more people will get scammed before this message sinks in.
the reason international signed for isnt fully covered by online tracking is it leaves RM's hands to another mail carrier for final delivery0 -
Well the OP has chosen to risk this and still has paypal listed and I agree that the plumber could get the last laugh here. All he has to do is get a friend to buy it at a highly inflated rate and therefore lots of FVfs..pay by paypal collect item and chargeback..OP then seller will be out of pocket by listing fees and FVfs.
All we can do here is advise, if the OP is happy to risk losing even more on this or by court action then so be it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
