Spent 67p on a small amount of beef mince that will be going into spot-the-mince Bolognese sauce tonight made with red lentils, wonky veg, with past-its-best celery and hm passata. Instead of pasta we will be having it in bell peppers (in my fridge, from my big shop - 55p each)topped with grated cheese, served with salad (from the garden).

  • Spend for this week has been £59.00 in Tesco and 17.50 in Iceland. Not too bad for me at least I’m more aware of what I’m spending on now. I need to get into the habit of making lists before I shop

This week i gave overnight oats a go for the 1St time as I had a few early mornings, and I loved them! Layered oats, splash of orange juice; yoghurt, frozen fruit, seeds, cinnamon and honey. Can highly recommend, especially if mornings are a rush:)

That sounds rather good - my current thing is a handful of jumbo oats, 2 large spoonfuls of (full-fat) Greek-style yogurt, a handful of mixed nuts and seeds (pumpkin, pine nut, raw cashews, and macadamia) and a handful of frozen wonky forest or summer fruits (english berries).

The yogurt and frozen fruit moisture is absorbed by the oats and it is quite filling - I do it first thing and eat it a couple of hours later - it fits with my diet and is recommended by one of the BBC Nutrition experts who was interviewed last year. I don't have concentrated fruit or anything sweet (no honey :(, no fruit juice, until mid December)

  • Hi

I've started the month by getting a big shop delivered from ASDA. This was £54.04 or 45% of the monthly budget. It is a bit scary as we are only 12.09% of the way through the month. I don't have a car so I drafted a meal plan for the month and ordered all the heavy or bulking ingredients. For the rest of the month I will have the ingredients without having to carry heavy shopping home on the bus. The only things I need are fresh food like fresh fruit and milk.

  • Up to £45.77, but that will (more or less) probably be it for the next week. Did a bigger shop than I was planning to, because I'm sneezing, coughing and fuzzy brained today so I expect a stinker of a cold to show up at some point.

Oh dear, Merlin's Beard, hope that clears up quickly!

I've spent £65 at the market this morning, on meat, fish, cheese, fresh fruit & veg, and there'll be a little more spent on Sunday as I forgot carrots. But otherwise it should be a low-spending week as DD2 & I are off to London to look after eldest's puppy for a few days, staying for free & with a well-stocked fridge! DD1 & OH will survive on what's here, or buy their own; I'll dash to L!dls on Tuesday morning to restock the non-perishables IF I get the chance, but I may not & it'll keep 'til next week before we're in desperate need of anything.

The only worry is that I have a ticket for the Knitting & Stitching show...
