    I would want to see the wording of the will before accepting there is an obligation to sell the shares.

    A deed of variation is only limited to two years for tax purposes. If all the beneficiaries want to keep their shares that can almost certainly be done.

    Bear in mind that minority shareholders may not be well treated by the majority, particularly if the latter are working in the company.
    No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    In private companies there is often the pre emptive right of existing shareholders to be offered the shares first.
