Son is using my Details to obtain Credit

Options
Hi All

Just after some advice - I'm doing a goor job reducing my debt only to find my son has obtained in the region of 15k of credit card debt in my name and also taken out a mobile phone contract in my name.

Where do I stand legally what would happen to my son if he was found out and what can I do to prevent this happening?

Thanks

  • Prevent what happening? him doing it some more or someone finding out about it? Fraud is a serious offense & he could (should?) go to prison for a lot of years.

If you can prove that you had no knowledge of these occurances, then he will be liable for conspiracy to defraud (I think)

It depends on what your relationship is like with your son and whether you want to see him in trouble.

He has committed fraud. Serious proper go to jail for a long time fraud.

If you want out of the £15k, you have to report your son. It's as simple as that. As for stopping him doing it again, I doubt you'll stop such a low life little get from pulling such a trick again.

Get the boys in blue to have a chat with him.

Tough love is what's called for. You let him get away with this and you'll be easy pickings in the future.
  • Find out the credit card details (account number, provider, etc), and write to them stating you want to close the credit card account. Similar thing for the mobile phone.

  • Son is 24, my credit rating has also been affected as I've just found out he has been missing payments on CCs
  • I love my son to bits, but if he did this to me I'd shop him. He needs to learn now that it's completely unnacceptable to do this to anyone.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Good grief  Litte s**t.

Have you challenged him about it? What does he say about it?

I'm sorry, but I'd be beyond angry about this. How DARE he do this?

Sorry, you must report this as a crime. Don't and I can assure you that he can & will do it again (bitter experience), you will also have to repay all these debts.

You will have to be cruel to be kind this time.
