Is it? It wasn't when I did it and unlikely when the OP could have done it.

Very cocksure for someone with a broken motor. Good luck with that.

Initially I had sympathy for the OP but she doesn't appear to appreciate how important checking a car is roadworthy is, and asking a mechanics to do it once every 6-12 months is NOT enough, maybe when a poorly serviced vehicle is in an accident with her or her daughter she will change her mind.
As for Shafts comments, my FIL passed his test in a village without traffic lights, doesn't mean he can ignore them now, he had to learn them and roundabouts, although he still struggles with multiple lane roundabouts

I’m sorry but where did you read that I don’t appreciate how important it is to keep a car road worthy???
It’s very, very important....I said I didn’t do the checks myself....I didn’t say the checks didn’t get done!!!

Have you checked there’s a reverse gear? It would help with your back-pedalling.

I just hope that one day in the future there will be some kind of generically available resource, maybe online, where you could enquire how to perform simple maintenance tasks and then get say a video that shows you. Until that day I suggest posters here hold their tongue.

I’ve asked a dozen people I work with and only three of them agree with you, so it won’t happen.

Back pedalling? Well that would be the case if I had of said it wasn’t important to do checks on a car. Again, I said I don’t know how to do them myself, I didn’t say the checks don’t get done.
