I received an email from Myppirefund today stating I owed them £551 as they stated they helped my claim £2221.
I contacted them early this year regarding investigating outstanding PPI. I received forms from them to send off to companies I may have had PPI matters with.
As a side note the forms were actually filled out by them incorrectly as they had somebody else’s address on.
I’m the end they informed me I had a claim to make however did not state with whom. During this time I read threads which stated I could claim myself and therefore made contact with companies I may have had PPI claims with. One of them I received approximately £1900. I also did not go with Myppirefund as they wanted 40% of the claim. They told me I lover the phone I would not have to pay anything unless I received a claim directly with them.
The email today stated they have been trying to contact me, which they certainly haven’t. This is the first email I have received. They also state unless I communicate and clear the balance by 23rd September the matter will be referred to a debt management agency.
My initial feeling is these people are crooks.
Any advice?

Pay up. You instructed them to work on your behalf, the fact you went and did it yourself alongside their work is neither here nor there. They will pursue you for this, they are ruthless as it is easy money.0

Did you sign the forms? If so I suggest you pay.0

Sorry but I don’t see why I should just pay up some spurious amount of money without any qualification. If they wish to go to court then we can see there, but they shouldn’t have told me it doesn’t cost anything.0

So you've been advised (sensibly and correctly in my opinion) to pay, yet you don't like this advice and don't see why you should pay?
If you had made your mind up then why bother posting asking for advice....?
The fact is that you will have signed an engagement letter or some form of agreement for them to work on your behalf (and you should have a copy of this!). This will detail their costs and fees - deciding to go ahead and pursue it yourself is neither here nor there as far as they're concerned. For what it's worth, I think these companies are lousy (my wife decided to use The Cl@ims Guys who are a bunch of cowboys, but that's another story) but I'd say that they are owed their fee.0 -
Nothing I received had their fees on. But yes they are cowboys.0

I will ask them for proof of this and then decide. Given they sent me a document with another person’s address on, they do not deserve this money, hence that was my decision to do it myself.0

OK, that does sound a bit iffy. At least the shysters my wife used for her PPI claims made it clear that they'd rake 20-odd percent of any refund money due, come what may.0 -
Exactly that’s what I’m not happy about. If there was a fee, which I was made ware of then fare enough. And to send me the first correspondence today stating they’d been trying to make contact about the matter and giving me until 23rd to pay. I can’t believe some people just say “pay up”.0

Are they all crooks? Yes.
Are their letters of authority legally binding? Yes.
Did you sign one engaging them to do ‘work’ on your behalf? It certainly sounds like you did.
Advice is as above, pay up.
You could however fight your corner, potentially get solicitors involved and take them through the courts for justice.
I’ll just leave this here, apropos to nothing in particular - Clickyhelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
Yes I saw that also but public organisations compared with private makes a big difference. If they wish to send someone to court to fight this then so be it.0
