Sainsbury's Gold - Fees abroad

in Credit cards
We've had this card since 2012 as we can use it abroad with no fees (for either cash or purchases).
However, I informed Sainsbury's Bank we were going away and they said fees now apply.
I don't remember being informed of any changes regarding foreign fees, I only remember them taking away the £5/month travel insurance in 2017.
Can anyone confirm, or has the operator got mixed up between Sainsbury's Credit Card and Sainsbury's Gold Card? Seems like they've deleted the Gold Card T&C's from their website so can't check myself.

If they change the t&c's, then they are legally obliged to tell you beforehand in writing - either via email or snail mail. Therefore take what they told you over the phone with a pinch of salt until you receive any official correspondence from them.
Their Gold credit card is/was probably the best credit card anywhere (ever?) for cash withdrawals - they never charged you interest as long as you paid off the full balance by the statement due date.0 -
Yes exactly.
Was great for cash withdrawals and foreign currency cash and payments.
As far as remember I didn't receive anything regarding the above by snail mail, and searching my email (I never delete) comes up blank.
Anyone else currently using Sainsbury's Gold to confirm?0 -
A quick way to find out would be to take out a tenner at your local ATM and then pay it off almost immediately through your bank. If they have introduced fees for forex use then they almost certainly will also have introduced cash withdrawal fees for the same card. If a few days later your statement shows any cash withdrawal fee then they will certainly have changed their t&c's on your card. In which case i would ring up & complain why they haven't informed your beforehand and also ask them to refund any applicable interest/cash withdrawal fees on your recent cash withdrawal. If on the other hand, they didn't charge any cash wifthdrawal fees then nothing has changed0

I used my card extensively over the summer for cash and foreign purchases, and no fees or interest. From my latest PDF statement (3 days ago!):Cash fee: No fee
Foreign usage
Non-sterling transaction fee: No fee
Cash fee: No feeI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Just got confirmation from Sainsbury's that they made a mistake and there are no fees:Sainsbury's_Bank wrote:You are correct, there is no charge attached to your specific card while using the card abroad.
Sorry for the confusion.0
