Returning mobile to Argos that isn't faulty. I bought the wrong one!

Not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes.
A couple of days ago I bought a mobile from Argos but I realised later, I had bought the wrong one.
I checked their returns policy and it says that they will accept returns even if there's nothing wrong with the item and have an exclusion as follows :
If the item or the packaging has been handled excessively to assess the goods (ie. more than you would if you were buying it in a shop) we reserve the right to reduce the amount of refund to you
I did turn it on, charge it up and set it up before realising that the phone was a different version of the same phone, and the one I wanted was the bigger screen version (even though it was cheaper).
I can put everything back in the box exactly as it was supplied, and the phone is in mint condition, but, of course, the seal has been broken but it would otherwise be considered pristine.
I'm not even bothered if they charge me a fee because it was my mistake, and I'll be swapping it for another phone from the same shop (although the one I want to swap it for is about £30 cheaper, but I'm happy to swap it for no adjustment back to me even though I'd lose £30.
Does anybody know if they will take this back? It seems that they will but I'm wondering if there are exclusions I may have missed.

You are entirely relying on goodwill. They have no legal obligation to let you return this as you have clearly excessively handled it. Setting it up is way beyond what you can do in store.0

You can ask but as Katrina says, they're under no obligation to take it back.0

Why is it the wrong one?0

It used to be they wouldn't refund anything that had memory, which a phone obviously does.0

The phone is used, and cannot now be sold as new.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

They don't have to refund it or even exchange it. You brought the wrong item and then used it. Although it is as you say in mint condition, it is no longer "new"0

Always found Argos to be pretty good. I bought a clock a few weeks ago but it was naff. Nothing wrong with it, just cheap junk. Went back to Argos next day and they happily took it back, but did buy a more expensive one0

Electrical.... well I wouldn’t return it. How does the shop staff know that it’s not been tampered with? What if they return it and it harms the next customer somehow?
Would you buy it confidently if Argos presented it to you?0 -
run factory reset , and leave at point you bought the phone in , ie awaiting new user to enter info0

I returned a mobile to Argos around 2 weeks after purchase. I wasnt happy with the wifi, it kept dropping, I spoke to the manufacturers helpline and they suggested a reset which I did - didnt fix my issues.
I took it back and told them I had spoken to the manufacturer and they said it was probably faulty.
I took it back to an Argos inside a Sainsburys that I knew didnt have one in stock as i had checked online so they couldnt offer me a replacement.
I didnt demand my money back, I just asked them what my options were and (I think reluctantly) one of the options was money back - which I took them up on.
It was in pristine condition although they didnt actually check.0
