NCP lost ticket and not enough cash to pay for the day

went out with £30 which i knew would be enough for car park and food. went to theatre who will stqmp ticket so the charge is £6. On way out of theatre I lost the ticket. charge for the day was £30. At that stage had approx £10. The only way i could get the money i owed was to go home and get some more - but they would not let me out.
what are you supposed to do in that situation?
i explained that they had my registration plate and i would give them my address. I explained that i had no choice other than to tailgate someone out. they said that would be £100 fine because of the camera. i questioned as to if there was a camera on cars going out couldn't they check with the cctv of me going in 2.5 hours previously. They said no
I did tailgate someone out. It felt to me as if my car had been impounded. is it legal for NCP to do that?

That surely is a question for a judge. If you tailgated someone else out, will they not get a ticket?l
As Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams you might like to consider complaining to your MP.
Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.
Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking CompaniesYou never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
thanks the deep
i think the camera will show me as the second car of two cars that were very close - showing i followed other car out before barrier had time to go down
what it in effect means though is that a credit card piece of paper is worth £300 -
No windscreen ticket? And, as yet, no postal PCN?
I'd contact the theatre - the manager, not anyone below that level - and explain what has happened. Do you have evidence of paying for your theatre ticket? It looks as if you only had cash on you on the night, but did you book in advance?
This is a whole lot of hassle for losing a ticket. It's not just the potential parking charge (which would be quite bad enough) but the humiliation and presumably panic at the time. I think you must have panicked a bit .... it might have been better to go straight back to the theatre and beg for help straight away.
Give the theatre advance 'warning', ready to insist that they cancel the PCN if indeed it arrives. Make sure they know that you are really worried and angry about what has happened. You've probably been a bit daft, at worst. But it's not as if you were trying to avoid paying for parking. If the theatre do not own the car park, demand to know who does and contact them. Be polite, contrite .... whatever you need to do. But there must be some firmness over all this, tell yourself you're going to get the likely PCN cancelled by the landowner somehow and in this situation you can pave the way for that.0 -
If the exit camera faced rear number plates then it will have captured your car, recognised a non payment - ticket in the post for you, plus the fact your tailgating will have covered the number plate of the guy in front there will be an entry record but no record of exit for him, so guess what he might be getting? Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

the problem is i live about 14 miles from the theatre so walking wasn't an option and no other options were open to me unless i wanted to park my car there permanently. I regret it if the guy in front is fined - but it will be clear to NCP that he left the car park and if they did not log him as leaning it is there problem0 -

It won't be NCP with the problem, it will be the person you tailgated who will have the problem. Could have been a vulnerable elderly person, whose shock on receiving a £100 penalty could make them quite ill.
NCP won't care who they pursue, their juggernaut will threaten to mow down every one of them in the expectation they will pay up .... or face a court claim.

Nope, it doesn't work like that. Everything is fully automated, devoid of any human intervention, so the person might have paid for 3 hours parking and left within 3 hours, but as there's no camera capture of his number plate leaving the car park, the system will work on the basis of an overstay for the money paid, and a ticket will be on its way in the post.

Well like i say i couldn't walk 14 miles. What would you have done?0 -
Yep, you could have done better I'm sure. But unless you can find your unintended 'victim' there's nothing that can be done about that.
Meanwhile, save yourself! That's all you can do.0 -

This persons attitude to his carpark situation ie "i can't get out of the carpark so I'll tailgate some unfortunate sap" is rather shocking.
By the way how far was the theatre to the carpark? - you could have gone back and asked for a replacement ticket!!!“You’re only here for a short visit.
