QUOTE=Collyflower1;76258294]Blimey, these responses are a real eye-opener. Maybe its been a good experience as it will wake me up and make me more aware of my own actions and responsibilities as a driver in future. [/QUOTE]
Yeh, good learning experience. All sorts do it though. It was once recounted to me a local fireman acquaintance that an old dear pulled up on the lines in front of the local retained fire station, just as they were going on a shout. "I'll only be a minute"..0 -
The law doesn't need explaining further than "you aren't allowed to park on the zig zags". Simple, helpful, and clearly understood by the layman without overly straining the issue. You could learn alot from that.Yes, stopping, albeit with a number of exceptions. Parking is unarguably stopping.
I was trying to keep it simple for the benefit of certain posters who don't seem to like explanations of the law;).0 -

Fixed that one for you to save any further discussion.0 -
Hmm...
Perhaps best to make clear that the driver parking on zig-zags wasn't the one involved in the collision and convicted for death-by-careless, eh?
At least, I assume you mean the parked red car, not the Sainsbury's wagon... The driver didn't notice the lights change, pulled off when the road was clear, and killed the toddler seen heading to the crossing at the end of the CCTV... The inconsiderate parking is a very small part of the chain of events.

The car was the catalyst. The driver (cars are not self aware yet, though deaths/injuries are often reported as such) started the events that led to an innocent death.0 -
It was one factor, and by far from the most important. The car was the catalyst. The driver (cars are not self aware yet, though deaths/injuries are often reported as such) started the events that led to an innocent death.
The truck driver stopped too far forward to be able to see the lights, and pulled away without looking at them.
The pedestrians started to cross without making sure the driver had seen them.
The stationary vehicle was clearly visible to all, way before the incident itself, and did not once move.0 -

The truck drivers actions were all due to the drivers choice to dump their car.
2 drivers caused that death.

It wouldn't have helped the poster to whom I was responding: he suggested that the police wouldn't be interested in a parking offence. I was merely pointing out why they would be interested. The law doesn't need explaining further than "you aren't allowed to park on the zig zags". I'd suggest it's not enough to know that something isn't allowed - it's better to understand the possible consequences.0
