Member of public photographed cars on white zigzag lines!

Hi,
last week ona wet morning i was photographed parked outside a local shop on white zigzag lines. I was 30 seconds in the shop to buy a newspaper. The person said she was reporting me to the police. I was livid as there were no pedestrians at all and the school run had finished 2 hrs previously. Added to that i was as far away as possible from the pedestrian crossing next to the last available correctly parked vehicle. Later that day others were also photographed guilty of the same parking infringement.
I gather if the penalty charge goes through it incurs a £60 fine plus 3 points on the licence. Will it also increase next years insurance premium?

Are you sure it's still £60?

In all honesty I doubt they'll do anything which is a shame as you deserve the points for being too lazy to park legally.
  • Don't be so lazy next time. The rules aren't optional just because it's raining or because you think the risk isn't there.

Is there any indication they have actually done so?

...at yourself for being caught bang-to-rights...?

    Oh.
    Rule 191
You MUST NOT park on a crossing or in the area covered by the zig-zag lines. You MUST NOT overtake the moving vehicle nearest the crossing or the vehicle nearest the crossing which has stopped to give way to pedestrians.
Direct link to the relevant legislation is http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1997/2400/regulation/18/made

So quite probably if you get prosecuted, others will be too. And...?

    £100 FPN now.

Yes, I would imagine most insurers will take a PC30 conviction into account when calculating the premium. You'll need to declare it for five years, not just one.

If a copper had seen you, you'd be sure of getting the points and fine.

This way you've probably got a timely warning. If you're lucky.
  • Any evidence that i've been reported , how would i find out?
Anyway , looks like im bang out of order and deserve the fpn if it happens.
My initial anger was because it was a member of the public as well as it seeming to be a trivial thing at that moment. If it had been a police officer or traffic warden it wouldnt have riled me so much. But i suppose it doesnt really matter who did the booking.

The registered keeper will get an s172 request to identify the driver. The process will be the same as a speed camera.

I suspect, though, that a public-supplied photo would just get a threatening stroppogram, rather than an actual prosecution.

Take it as a gentle hint, perhaps?
  • Trouble is i gave a couple of verbals; called him a busybody and mr.big. I'm ashamed now in retrospect; i'll probably go down for this!

Is it that trivial though and what's the big deal because it was a member of the public, being a bit more civic minded isn't a bad thing in this day and age.

"The person said she was reporting me to the police."

So, first a motoring offence, now a transgender hate crime ...
