Well as the op hasn't given any of the story, you'd better ask them.
Where did I say he could search them,as the op hasnt replied to the question whether he gave permission to be searched.
It's certainly a strange story that instead of getting a member of staff to search them the store detective stopped them.
Not getting the whole story here, or the op means a security guard
