Look at how far you have come in just 1 year.
Next year should be even better, as you may not have any building works, going on, and by then hopefully you will have reduced that enormous S@insbury's bill, nearly as high as my BP !!!
I just ignore the first few figures and concentrate on the last 4 or 5 figures, that way its more achievable, next thing you know your down to the next hundred or thousand
And everyone is allowed a treat now and then.Always have 00.00 at the end of your mortgage and one day it will all be 0's :dance:MF[STRIKE] March 2030[/STRIKE] Yes that does say 2030  Mortgage Free 21.12.18 _party_Now a Part Timer from 27.10.191 -
😮 to the food bill, but you have recognised it and that's the first step to improving. I have a motto I roll out when I have the "I can afford it" conversation in my head: "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should...." And sometimes it works 🤣!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Nearly a month since I was last on here - I've been really busy with work as have been working two jobs again the past couple of weeks. Both jobs thankfully have settled down on the drama front - phew. Not so good on the moneysaving - predictably the more hours I work the more I think f@ck it at the end of the week and spend $$$ in the supermarket. Also needed to invest in a computer for the kids for all the home working they are doing so that blew out the mortgage savings pretty much this month. Have just paid £120.99 in order to get the balance down to £225,3000. I wasn't going to bother but then I think sometimes it's easy to let the whole months budgeting go out of the window and I want to pull things back a bit. I also returned a pair of shoes I had bought that were an overpriced impulse buy (£125), and reduced the mileage on my car insurance (total saving £4.70). With the extra hours I'm working I should be able to get in a better OP next month and then it's ChristmasMFW #69 Mortgage remaining Jan 2021 £221,644; Jan OP £1000;1

Well done on making the OP and not giving up. The analogy that's really resonated with me is that if you drop your mobile phone and it gets damaged, you wouldn't then declare it finished and grind it into dust with your foot - you'd stop and pick it up and keep going. So that's a bit of a longwinded way of me saying not deciding the month was "lost" is great 😀
Well done on taking the shoes back too - that's a great credit to get back 😮!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Thanks South Coast. I definitely felt better for making an OP even though it was less than I've managed most months. Made an OP of £1000 as soon as I got paid this month. Only one more OP due this year - I want to make sure all the Christmas shopping is done first - or at least planned for - so we don't run short. Kept on working both jobs and should have enough work to get me through to Christmas working pretty much full time. I'm hoping to put away enough for a holiday deposit for 2021. Need to budget the boiler service and OHs car service next month too.MFW #69 Mortgage remaining Jan 2021 £221,644; Jan OP £1000;0

What brilliant progress you’ve made. Grocery shopping was my blind spot before lockdown but I’ve really changed my shopping habits. Meal planning, freezer and cupboard inventories, shopping the offers and I’m saving a fortune. I also switched from Sainsbury’s to a cheaper supermarket and that’s made a big difference.1

It's been a few weeks since I was last on here. Made final OP of the year of £825.70 to get me to my £10k target
Having a target for the first time this year has definitely meant that I have saved more than usual. I can't believe I made it to £10K!!!!!!!!!! That represents a full year off the mortgage term. Christmas has been pretty expensive but everyone is pleased with their gifts and the house has enough alcohol and chocolate to get us through until spring. I have also kept the £1k emergency savings and put another £2K aside from extra hours worked over the past couple of months in my second job. Mortgage balance at the end of this year is £221644 am going to focus on getting under £200K in 2021.

just checked back and seen my original target for the year was £10800 not £10000 - oh dear! well I'm still going to class that as target achieved as it is near enough for me!MFW #69 Mortgage remaining Jan 2021 £221,644; Jan OP £1000;1
