I’m really glad I found your diary, I’m looking at remortgaging next year to pay off HTB. Tbh, once I started looking into all the fees to pay it back I really wish I hadn’t taken it out in the first place. If you’ve got any advice or pearls of wisdom I’d be really interested to hear them.
Good luck on your MFW journey, I’ll be following along.Mortgage balance as of end of Dec 19 - £120,675

Thanks for your reply, it all sounds really complicated! I’ll make sure I keep the timescales in mind though, thanks xMortgage balance as of end of Dec 19 - £120,675

Made £950 OP this morning :T I was dithering a bit about it as money seems to be flying out of the bank account but in the end I decided the longer I wait the less likely I am to make an OP at all. Do other people tend to send the money to the mortgage as soon as they get paid? January ended up being a fairly expensive month. I had to pay out for lots of train tickets which I won't get back for another 2 months. Rail travel is so flippin' expensive! We went out a couple of times for birthday meals and ended up throwing some food away out of the fridge - which I absolutely hate doing. I'm going to meal plan like crazy this weekend to try and reduce any food waste this month. I've also started making my work lunches in a batch at the weekend.
Good things that have happened this month are job #1 has been going really well - things seem far more positive and enjoyable job #2 has lots of potential overtime so going to be busy in Feb and March and also may have job #3 on the horizon from April onwards. Kids are in a good routine with sorting themselves out after school so working seems lots easier. I have also stuck to the not drinking and have lost 8 pounds in weight. I've been exercising at home instead of paying for gym classes. I think I've done more as I find it easier to fit 30 mins in at home rather than the hour and a half I need to allow to go to the gym.
Plans for the rest of the day involve taxiing children to various activities and then later going out for a long walk with the dog. And not spending any money :rotfl:MFW #69 Mortgage remaining Jan 2021 £221,644; Jan OP £1000;0 -
Hi Yogavibes
I've subscribed and been following your journey - you are doing so well.
We've been off the property ladder for about nine years now and are just getting back on - huge mortgage and help to buy - but we are planning to start early repayments as soon as we can. We should complete in May and will have 19 years so round about the same as you. I will be cheering you on in the background and trying to keep up.
I was just catching up with your posts and spotted the one about the coat repair you were thinking about. It may be too late now, but I used to do many a repair (or alteration) using invisible iron-on-tape or even the coloured iron on repair tape. You position it behind the repair, hence its invisible. If you have the right colour tape its even better as it fills any gaps. If you wash it, it usually needs a quick re-iron to make sure it stays in place, or sometimes I put the odd stitch in place as well. Anyway here are a couple of examples - although I probably picked mine up from the pound shop or somewhere like that: Mending Tape - Colours Invisible Repair Tape

thanks Supersaver for the tips on the coat repair tape - I did have a go at it and managed to do a half decent job! so please with myself as it is a really good coat so hopefully DS will get lots more wears. Congrats on the forthcoming house purchase. I've been paying a mortgage for the past 18 years so having another 19 years to go sometimes gets me down - but on the other hand our house is lovely and I'm confident I'll be able to make a good dent in the term. I'm aiming to get it to 10 years - but aware it might be nearer to 15 once the kids start Uni and we want to try and support them as well.MFW #69 Mortgage remaining Jan 2021 £221,644; Jan OP £1000;1

Eugh feeling really stressed this evening. I have taken on some extra work which I am now thinking was a massive mistake - I've been so focused on trying to ear as much as possible for the mortgage OPs I think I have overstretched myself massively. I am now going to either let someone down or try and juggle the extra work on top of other jobs and kids/housework/pets/family commitments. I've become totally indecisive about what I should do - eg should we go on holiday or pay more off mortgage, should I work 50 hours a week if that means we can pay more off mortgage...I've become a bit obsessed and I need to try and relax about it all.MFW #69 Mortgage remaining Jan 2021 £221,644; Jan OP £1000;1

I would have to give a 3 month notice period beanielou so it seems like a big commitment once I start. I can't seem to make my mind up about anything at the moment. On count down for next week as I have a couple of days off with the kids so can try and focus on making some decisions then. It's all worse when the house is a mess as I come home after work and feel stressed about that too. On the positive I am really enjoying both of my jobs at the moment.
