  • Just a query on the kwh charged by Utilita,
Eversmart charged me Daily charge .20 per day,  then 14.9900p/kw
    Been charged by Utilita 18 Sep - 30 sep   first 26.00KWh @28.885, Next 151 @17.699
    Then  1 oct - 16 oct   First 34KWh @28.250p Next @17.017p
My question is, should there be a period Utilita has to keep my rates on the same as Eversmart. Or can they charge what they like as soon as we moved on to them?
    Thanks for the help

As soon as you're a Utilita customer you pay the Utilita tariff!. They're Supplier of Last Resort for a reason, I can't see anyone becoming a customer by choice. I get the impression they specialise in prepayment tariffs and this appears to be reflected in their woeful credit tariffs. I hope you've already switched from them.

I switched as soon as possible, I was forced to say with them for two weeks. Then the switch took two more weeks to move over, I'm now with Symbio energy.
Just took me up till now to get my credit from Eversmart passed over, but still ended up with a £37.95 bill after credit applied.
Utilita charged me £82.31 for 414KWh of use, Eversmart would have been about £65 i think.

Some of the SoLR will honour the busted suppliers tariffs and some don't. AFAIK Utilita dont, they just put you onto their expensive tariff.
The same when IRESA died, Octopus took over and I suddenly ended up pay 2.5p/kwh more for my leccy. I got away as soon as I could but it still cost me around £25 extra for the short time I was with them - a whole year would have cost nearly £250 extra.

I actually went to Eversmart but left them a week before they went bust and so avoided Utilita - I got my  Eversamrt credit back from Utilita a day or so before Christmas after I'd sent them a snottogram threatening the ombudsman.

I'm now enjoying Symbio's cheap leccy until they fall off the twig  :(;)

Well Utilita really are the gift that keeps on giving.

I've submitted a complaint about my final bill, but received a Final Demand letter this week.  It threatens Debt Collectors, etc so I thought I'd give them a call.
I explain that the opening estimated readings are miles out and provide the actual readings.  They re-run the numbers and come up with a figure of £97 owed.  That seems great; I've done my own calculation and was expecting a figure of £93 - although I've made a payment of £90 in the meantime.  No, the £97 is in addition to the £90 already paid.

I was paying Eversmart £105 a month.  Yet in the 20 days I was with Utilita they think I've used £187 worth of energy.

I really hope that whomever is looking at my complaint has a bit more sense.

Just typed a snotty letter for my daughter. Will wait and see. They have still not come after their 58p from me.

    They billed me for 22p.
A duplicate standing charge for the 18th September.

I am "in ongoing discussions" with Utilita. I have now received the third version of their final revised energy bills which includes them producing the final Eversmart bill.  I transferred to Avro as soon as I saw their Smart Energy tariff. Their estimated annual cost is £1260. With Avro it will be less than £900.
According to Offgem the Supplier of Last Resort should charge a fair price. Complete con.

3.23. Ofgem policy: A failed supplier’s customers should not generally expect to be protected from paying increased prices. However, deemed contracts can reflect no more than the reasonable costs of supply (including costs attributable to the purchase of gas or electricity at short notice), together with a reasonable profit. In certain circumstances it may be appropriate for potential SoLRs to address the loss of this balance (e.g. through applying a credit to the customer’s account) in order to ensure that customers are not unduly affected
  • It's been over 6 months since the collapse of Eversmart and I have still not heard anything from the administrators or Utilita.  Anyone else in the same situation?
My account is roughly even, so they might view me as not worthwhile.
