they didn't have my last bill from Eversmart...

Also had no record of a payment I made in September

Then they are not in any position to be producing bills yet.
so they estimated it

My bills stretch the definition of the word estimate.

My October bill from them, based on actual readings, was 9.2kWh per day. Their estimate for September assumed 41.2kWh per day.

That's not an estimate. That's a blatant cash grab.

Hopefully you will have been able to send them copies of your last bill from Eversmart and your first bill with the company you moved to after Utilita. These will confirm the start and finish readings for your contract with Utilita.

So have you had to raise a formal complaint to challenge the £229 figure given they’ve said ‘case closed’? I’ve not had email from Utilita yet requesting amount I owe Eversmart (reckon I’m prob c£200 in debit) but am fully expecting the amount they calculate to be too high.

Sent Utilita details of my direct debits from bank statements my spreadsheet calcs over 12 month period of supply, asked Utilita to check my direct debits as amount missing equals one direct debit.
Also if they didn't agree with me to send a letter of deadlock and I'll take it up with Ombudsman service.

( I understand it costs them £150 for each complaint lodged with the Ombudsman).

Anyway result today ..:j Full payment!

Thank you for your response, I do apoligse the total credit amount advised to you, i have doubled checked all payments and can see the April payment was missing from your account.

Mmm Spelling and maths lessons should be the order of the day for Utilita or perhaps they don't have the word apologise in their vocabulary!

So was Utilita's final bill accurate?

And did they take account of any credit / debit you had with Eversmart?

Well when I got my Utilita bill I never realised that !!!! Turpin was alive , well and disguised as Utilita!!!

I didn't realise they charge 56 pence a day standing charge, or £204 per year. Are there any customers staying with Utilita at this rate?

I actually managed to speak to a human today. I explained that they were trying to charge an extra 270 kWh at their rates rather than Eversmart Energy's rate.

I couldn't move any quicker than 28 days after they took over, mores the pity. They are going to send a new bill. Let's hope it's less than the £101.65 they want to charge for the privelige of using only 249 kwh.

That's nearly 41 pence per kWh!!! However, based on their estimate of usage, 519 kWh, they charge 19.5 pence per kWh.

Nice earner if you can get it, Utilita. Robin Hood is alive and well but robbing the poor to give to the rich.

Anyone feel as ripped off?

I had my final bill from these cowboys, my confirmed Eversmart usage was 750KWh for the previous month before Utilita took over, Utilita estimated my usage for 5 DAYS at 250 KWh! even though I'd submitted a meter reading. And no acknowledgement of my Eversmart credit balance.

I went into major complain mode, the following day I had my Eversmart credit balance confirmed and my final bill adjusted in accordance with my submitted meter readings. They are clearly trying to take the p*ss.

Yes, I think it's a case of 'lets just charge these people whatever we think we can get away with. Some of the suckers might just pay up. If anyone complains, we'll give them a correct bill.'

One question for those who have now had final bills from Utilita - what period did they charge for energy?

Was it from the day Eversmart folded (6th Sept 2019) until the day your new energy company contract started?

Or was some of the energy charged at the Eversmart rates for a while after they folded? If so, are you expecting another small bill from the Eversmart administrators for that period?

What is the actual start date shown on your Utilita bill please?

I have received 2 bills from Utilita. They were both dated 2nd Jan 2020 and received on the 13th Jan 2020.

The first covers the period 18/9 through to 30/9 and the second 1/10 to 16/10 (the day I left Utilita).

I'm perfectly happy with their October bill. It is based on my closing reading submitted to them and a reading I provided on the 3rd October (which they used for the 1st). I think the 3rd October was the earliest I could submit meter readings to them.

I'm not happy with their September bill because it is completely wrong. Their opening estimate for the 18th September is ridiculous. As someone who uses less than 10kWh per day (as reflected in my October readings) they have estimated I used more than 40kWh per day during September.

I supplied the actual reading for the 18th September opening a couple of weeks ago and requested a revised bill but this has not been forthcoming.

They have also not accounted for my closing credit with Eversmart.

I paid Utilita what I calculated I owed them a couple of weeks ago and submitted a spreadsheet to them to illustrate this.

A letter arrived this week which I hoped would be an accurate bill showing I now owed nothing but it was a request for the outstanding amount to be settled within the following 7 days.

As far as I understand, Utilita bills run from 18/9 and Eversmart up to that date.

Thanks for this. It is very disheartening.

I have an Eversmart bill dated 6th Sept and a Breeze Energy bill dated 28th Oct, the day they took over my supply from Utilita. Both bills are based on my actual meter readings.

So, although I don't have an actual reading for 18th Sept (Utilita never asked me to supply one, or to set up a Direct Debit), I can easily supply both of these documents to them, together with my estimate of the readings for 18th Sept.

I foresee a fight though.

Disappointing that they haven't included the Eversmart account balance - mine was £113 in credit. Is that legal?

So, if Eversmart closed on 6th Sept and Utilita billed you from 18th, that means you should expect a small bill from Eversmarts administrator sometime in the future?

Presumably you are complaining to Ofgem?

Like you, my final bill from Eversmart was dated 6th September. I believe they continued operating until 11th September. I was regularly checking on my network operator's website during this period and I continued to be reported as being an Eversmart customer up until 18th September. On the 19th it was showing Utilita.

I have an email from Utilita dated 19th September 2019 that states the following:
We will start the process of preparing your final bill from Eversmart in the next 4-8 weeks.

The same email also said:
If you were in credit with Eversmart, we'll protect your balance

If you left Eversmart and were due a refund, we will refund you once we have received more information from Eversmart

This hasn't happened even though I've provided all the information required for them to do this. I mentioned further up the thread, one factor that may be influencing them is that they promised OFGEM not to draw upon the industry levy in honouring Eversmart customer's credit balances.

What is particularly frustrating is
1. The incorrect billing
2. Ignoring the Eversmart credit balance
3. Refusing (so far) to respond to my emails.

I'm quite experienced now with going through energy company failures and SOLRs from the consumer perspective and this has been the slowest and the worst.
