is it not the same thing? I am still waiting for a year for my last CCJ to go past the date, is in dispute but probabbly wont get overturned. So wont check until a year is up
  • So the thing to do then is wait til 12 months has passed then come back if you still can’t get one.

Although still don’t be expecting one straight away.

why not straight away after the year is up? What will they wait for if my file is in order and i pass their eligbility check of having a CCJ that is a year old
  • Because they’re still not obliged to provide you with a card.

Especially if you have other debts on your files as well.

    Everything gets taken into account.
  • To answer your questions:

So around 3.5 years after your CCJ you got a cc.

    -- yes

Why did you wait for 3.5 years?

-- I was in a DMP, split with my husband, relocated / started new life, had to separate debts, self manage DMP.

    did you get rejected earlier?

-- only by my own bank about a month after being accepted for my sub-prime CC.

Is the CCJ paid and when did you pay it off?

-- it is now paid off, last month it was settled, only showing as satisfied on one credit report.

Did the bank offer you one or did you apply?

-- they told me I would be highly likely to be accepted.

I have various bank accounts but most of them are not in use so i am afraid of applying through them as they will see it. Did you have regular income and outgoing with your bank for them to give you a credit card?

-- I've always had a regular income. When I first applied to them I was earning over £28k PY, they offered me it when I'm earning just over £13.5k.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

Pefect, thanks for the detailed explanation. It gives hope to people in similar situations. I will wait a while until i apply for a CC with the high interest rates and then hopefully a bank one after another year or two

I also have over a dozen current accounts. I do it so can access current accounts that pay interest on credit balances and also any linked high interest savings accounts.

Edit: Just realised A4445, that you were referring to Basic accounts and not current accounts. I cannot see any advantage with having 10 Basic accounts...

  • When I applied for my first eligible credit card for people with bad credit, (when I had lots of recent defaults on my credit files), I applied for a CapitalOne Classic card. The application for the Classic card was declined, but they made me an offer of a Secured card with a £200 max limit. All I was required to do was to pay a lumpsum security deposit in advance of receiving a card.

After about a year of successfully managing the CapOne card, paying off the statemented balance in full each month, I successfully applied for Aqua Reward card...
