You need to look at whats using it all - as I said before we are all electric and even on washing day when the washing machine and tumble dryer are flogging their hearts out (usually five wash & dry cycles) we only manage around 20-22kwh a day at this time of the year.
Our average daily leccy use is around 8kwh in the summer but it can go up to 60kwh/day in the winter but that's also heating the house so your consumption looks to be very highNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
natalie - have you by any chance got an immersion heater switched on permanent boost ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

I think you need to do one of those "turn everything off, is the meter still going round" style audits. It looks as though you have something heavy duty (e.g. immersion) left switched on that you don't know about or have forgotten about.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I'd concur with what others are saying about your usage levels. I would consider myself to be a fairly profligate user of fuel, as I work from home (and my husband has been home for a year too) and we choose not to skimp - I have a couple of plug in radiators on timers running in cooler times in rooms not covered by the CH - and I know these make a tangible difference in those months.
Your kWh usage is a good 50% more than mine (averaged for the year to date) and nearly twice my current use, so suggestive, as already posted, of something heavy being in use - maybe inadvertently. Usually things that generate heat are fuel heavy.0 -
Your electricity consumption is pretty shocking - almost as if there's a 1kW fan heater running 24/7. Is your hot water scalding hot? There could be an immersion heater on 24/7 keeping the water thermonuclear hot.0

I just received an electricity bill from Utility Warehouse - about 8 months after switching to Avro. I called and they said they had been in dispute with Avro for some time and this was what was owed. Is this legal? I had given accurate gas and electricity readings when I switched - they could not tell me why the gas reading had been accepted, but the electricity reading had been disputed. They sent me a bill out of the blue and with no explanation, for nearly 130 quid. A bit rich to demand immediate payment when they've taken 8 months to reach this 'decision'. Anyone else experienced similar? Am I legally obliged to pay after so long? Many thanks.0

By how much do your and the Avro/UW electricity readings differ ?
By your own calculations how much do you owe UW ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Thanks so much everyone...went into the garage and found the switch for immersion...it was on!!!! God knows how long for!! We’ve lived here a year!!
Switched it off on Saturday.
Readings yesterday and today as follows:
Electric
8/9 - 86037
9/9 - 86051
Gas
8/9 - 44682
9/9 - 44689
Does that seem more normal??
Thanks0 -
You may just have cracked itNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

That certainly sounds more in line with my own electricity usage (albeit only one day reading to go by) - it looks like you've found the culprit. Fancy putting the switch for it in the garage, they're usually right next to the tank - unless the tank's in the garage too.
That could certainly account for several hundred pounds of excess electricity used.0
