We don't have that, the UK likes to have a minority of the population decide what we do (i.e. leaving the EU)

Has the UK Parliament ever operated any differently. Take it a level further and the EU operates with even less of a mandate.

Doesn't mean we should keep doing it.

Can you explain why you think that? In general the EU works in a much more democratic way than our own system.

    No change on the horizon.

Turnout of 50.62% for 2019 elections suggests not. UK with 36.9% suggests little interest.

More people would be encouraged to vote in the UK if we had PR.

Turn out in european elections is increasing.

Why no option for Lib Dem government and Revocation?

As explained in the opening post, it's based on Daniel Finkelstein's article which dismisses that option for the same reason that "aliens land on earth and upload everyone into a transcendental collective consciousness eliminating all individual distinctions between humans" is dismissed. I agree with Finkelstein in this regard.

The Lib Dems campaigned on a Remain platform in 2017 and were demolished. They did better in the 2019 European elections but as far as UK politics goes it's a dead parrot of a platform. People voted in European elections based on their Remain / Leave tribe, but the next General Election will be fought on what people want after we leave.

If Remain was a vote-winner in a general election the Lib Dems would already be in power and Brexit would have been cancelled years ago.

I didn't vote on the remain/leave issue in the 2017 GE as I didn't think it was up for debate.
I will be voting on that issue in the next GE if there's one held whilst we can't deliver brexit.

My constituency in the SW could go from tory to lib dem as it's a swing seat.
I don't think the lib dems would get in though, I think we'll have a hung parliament.

Staying in the EU in 2017 didn't seem like a realistic option so there was no point voting purely on leave/ remain terms. Revocation just wasn't a word that was heard.

Boris is a single issue politician and would be more likely than May to turn a GE into a proxy referendum. That might well suit the Lib Dems. It would also effectively rule out a Tory/ Lib Dem coalition - they got taken to the cleaners about tuition fees - they aren't going to settle for less than another referendum in a coalition agreement.

There is a difference between a vote winner and a majority. Voting in the 2017 election was tactical to remove the conservatives majority, which was reasonably successful.

The situation has moved on since then, things change. We'll see how they unfold.

I can't read the article. Anyone know why Finkelstein discounts a reheated May deal because that's my bet as to where we'll end up? The DUP seem to be accepting movement in the backstop keeping them closer to the EU than the rest of the UK.

Why are you such a traitor?

I realise this is a fast-moving topic, and this post was made a week ago, and has moved on while I was busy with RL matters.

However, calling someone a traitor is serious. I’d like to know your reasons.
