What is included in weekly income for SP30 fine?

Just been done for doing 50 in a 40.

By my reckoning that is a band A offence. I should just get £100 + 3 points if I don't contest it,

In the unlikely event I did, its 50% of weekly income.

I'm a Ltd co contractor so most of my income is dividends with a very low salary. My payslips/P60 show my salary. The dividends are sporadic through the year.

Is it just salary or does it include dividends.

First time ive been done in 25years!

Why would you want to contest it?

You've also got a good chance of a Speed Awareness Course so no points.
  • If I did do a course, I'd have to take a day off client site. I'm self employed and the cost of losing a days billing would outweigh a hundred pound several times over!

I was thinking about arguing incorrect signage and poorly sited camera. The warning signs were blown down in heavy winds a few weeks ago and were never replaced and the camera is largely obscured by a bush.

I probably won't as I'd lose much more than £100 - especially if they did take into account dividends

Do you honestly believe that's a valid defence for speeding :rotfl::rotfl:

The warning signs for the camera or the speed limit signs?

I'm not an expert on these matters but are those reasons a valid defence? Do you need to see a camera to realise you should be aware of your speed?

If I could take the course I would.
OK it costs to take, and to take the day off work.
But if you rely on your licence for work, what price the three points if you get other tickets?
I know a mate of mine has just done the course on exactly this point. He had a clean licence, but drives a lot. It cost him a lot more than the course cost in lost time.
He reckoned it was worth it.
He said he learned stuff as well.

But you're prepared to spend a day at your local Magistrates Court waiting for your case to be heard to give your two pence worth?

And courses are available on weekends (and evenings) in many areas. But let me guess you work seven days a week and 18 hours a day.

There is no requirement for signs. They do that out of the goodness of their hearts.

Some areas do SAC's on Saturdays and Sundays.
Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....
  • No, its not a valid defence.

But the law is the law and unless I'm mistaken, that the cameras have to be visible from a distance at 40mph.

I've never been done in 25 years, not because I'm an angel - far from it - but because I'm bloody good at spotting speed cameras.

This one is hidden by a bush next to steps to a pedestrian bridge and you can't see the thing until you are on top of it.

I had to double check it even existed when the fine came through and I drive that road every day!

If I could save myself the money and the points I would - but I think I'll just take them.
  • Aye, if they did a course of a weekend I probably could except I work away from home Monday-Thursday - its my work location I was done.

I#d rather spend my weekend at home with my family than several hundred miles away in a class room. For the sake of £100 quid and 3 points.

EVenings I could easily do (more interesting than propping up the hotel bar) but unless it could be guaranteed, we're back to square one.
