Do we really need to move?

You could always down size again, and probably make money doing it.
I don't think they should share if the is more than 2 years difference, Their bed times are going to be very different and lead to the older one always disturbing the youngest trying to sleep.0 -
Personally I would definitely want something bigger than a 2-bed terrace with 2 kids.
As your girls grow older, especially when they become teenagers, they are going to want their own room.
And you are going to want them to have their own room to avoid conflict - with each other and with their parents !!!0 -

but then my wife always says the kids won’t be living with us forever
You can always downsize again in the future to release equity.0 -
I think my biggest issue would be the future issues with trying to get in the bathroom!! at some point in the future you're looking at 2 girls who will spend hours and hours every day in there! you'll never be able to pee!!Those who risk nothing, Do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothingMFW #63 £0/£5000

Lots of people have four people in a house with one bathroom. We did when growing up.. actually there was five of us with one bathroom. It wouldn't be a reason I'd move. The rest is up to you. Plenty of people live in small houses and do just fine. It depends how much importance you place on your house rather than the area and surroundings.0

We mitigated that for building control by having a hardwired smoke alarm. The only fire door was on the attic room itself.
Kids having separate rooms is a modern expectation. Children always shared before.Officially in a clique of idiots0 -

Yeah, 8+ kids in a Victorian 2 up 2 down, sharing a bed as well as a bedroom, tin bath by the fireside and outside netty. Cholera and TB was shared too. I don't think wanting to do away with that is too modern an expectation....
Personally, I think the OP, or rather the OP's other half is being a bit selfish here.0 -
The kids won't be with you forever but there's still a fair way to go!
I'm a great believer in not having too many rooms, but I think the kids having a room each (and you having a little extra space to enjoy as a result) wouldn't hurt. I guess it's all about how much it actually costs.
What 's the actual cost of moving up to a 3 bed? How long before you retire?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Look at moving to somewhere bigger in 3 years time, when the elder girl is 11.
That gives you 3 years to save up a lot more money, & you could both be earning more as well.0 -
How big is the room? I'm 4 years younger than my sister and we shared a 6' by 7' room until I was 14 and she was 18. Looking back on it now, I was OK because by the time I really needed some of my own space she had moved out, but she never got it. She was the one who had to use Mums bedroom for homework, or getting ready for bed when she was an early teenager & I was still on a strict bedtime.
If it was me I would have it in future plans for when your eldest is approaching teenage years.0
