At present I think this is our best option.0 -
Even if you cant change it, how much time is she expecting to spend in the room anyway? Probably just be used for sleeping and no doubt they will be getting ratarsed, most people will sleep on a concrete slab when they have had a skinful.0

Yes indeed. That considered, worrying comments from the reviews in this respect was the bed bugs. Bugs and bites pictured  and Smoke Alarms covered because they keep going off.
Migration at present is to find somewhere on arrival to buy bed bug killer spray. Fire, hum. Take your own smoke detector?0 -
Contact booking.com by phone (which seems to work OK) and point out that the poor reviews appear to be genuine.
Given that, if your experience matches that of the reviewers, you would expect to claim a refund from booking.com, booking.com might reasonably be expected to sort things out themselves.0 -
Were the reviews OK at the time she booked? If so, perhaps the hotel has suffered temporary problems and will be OK by the time she arrives.
I suggest that she considers how bad it would have to be for her to refuse to stay there, and that she explores possible alternatives. So if she arrives and find the hotel is unacceptable she will know where to go (after taking photographs and documenting the problem so that she will be able to claim a refund).0 -

Booking.com don't have and never had had the money to refund. Refund would come from the hotel. Any issues would need to be taken up with them direct.0 -

We will be emailing the Hotel for their comments and consideration of cancellation with refund.0 -
That is either nonsense, or a different booking.com to the one I have used.leylandsunaddict wrote: »Booking.com don't have and never had had the money to refund. Refund would come from the hotel. Any issues would need to be taken up with them direct.0 -

We stayed here, and despite some poor reviews, it is not really a bad place.
Reasonably clean and competitively priced (for Amsterdam)
Just book the canal view rooms for more peace and quiet.0
