I used expanding foam, but this seems more sensible.0 -

I hate trickle vents, never have ours open, never have damp but they do provide free accommodation for spiders. If I ever get around to replacement windows I'd love to specify these 'out'.
The only part of the house that had trickle vents was an extension (bedroom & two bathrooms) put up about 15 years ago. Last year we had all windows replaced (& other work) & I told the surveyor (local glazing/extension company) that I didn't want trickle vents although I knew I should, he said "Don't worry about it". I didn't worry about it & now I have no trickle vents, no noise, no spiders!Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
Mine were held on with two screws. I took them off, Covered the holes with insulating tape and put the vents back on."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I feel like just taping up the outlet is missing the opportunity to fill the hole with some noise dampening material, whether foam, insulation or something else. Ideally I'd be able to pull it out if required so would prefer non-expanding foam etc.
Suggestions on specific products welcome, thank you.0 -
Some of you must live in really noisy areas!
Can't say we have noticed any excess noise coming through our tickle vents!0 -
We have a town house overlooking the river Trent and fields on the other side of the river. There is a factory about 1/2 mile down on the other side of the river. we used to get a lot of dirt blow in the vents across the ceiling plus noise from the factory. The noise is not too noticeable during the day but sounds noisy at night when we are in bed.
As I said, I blocked the holes in the frame with PVC repair tape several years ago and it works well. Like EE there were small covers on the screws holding the vents on.0 -
Can anyone recommend a specific insulation that'd be best to stuff in the vents? Also which insulating tape / PVC repair tape? Cheers0

I think Gorilla make 2 inch wide repair tape or cheaper from China on ebay .0

Cheers all, I'm popping to B&Q at the weekend so if anyone can recommend specific insulation / PVC repair tape that'd be appreciated. Sounds like this combo would be best to dampen noise.0

I'd just pack rockwool tightly into the space.0
