How long does it take speeding tickets to come through?

I believe I've recently been caught out on the M25 by a variable speed camera. I am therefore now anticipating that brown envelope falling through my letterbox.

I know they have 14 days to send it through (and I know the rules for it still being valid after 14 days if the intention was for me to receive it before) but for those who have received one, how long did it take to come through? I've never received one, and I don't want to start getting my hopes up closer to the end of 2 weeks if it's likely to arrive then. Also I am the registered keeper so it will come to me.

What will be will be, but it'd be good if I could estimate a time frame to prepare myself. Thanks guys

The registered keeper must be served the NIP within 14 days.
  • I know - I'd just like to know how quick or slow people have got these through in the 14 day timeframe. If I'm going to get one I'd rather find out sooner!

When was it? Given theres just been a bank holiday they will be a day behind this week.

Don't get your hopes up at any point within the 14 days, but also try not to worry about it as the outcome will be the same regardless. Is there any chance the variable speed camera had just changed the speed limit before you passed it?

It really can depend, if you read boards like :

    http://forums.pepipoo.com

People seem to get them from about day 4 right up to day 14, most seem to be somewhere in the middle .

It's just luck of the draw when you'll get it, stop worrying and just wait it out. It'll come when (if) it comes.
  • It was on bank holiday Monday, so I'm taking day 1 as Tuesday meaning I'm only 3 days in. A long way to go yet. The waiting is the worst bit.
  • The general consensus seems to be anytime! I will just have to wait and see.

Make sure you record (date stamped photo) when you receive it (if you do get one). If it's beyond 14 days then you need to prove it was served late.

How does the photo prove it was served late? The date stamp only proves when it was taken.
