Just a quick look on AutoTrader for GTi Performance + Dynaudio...

It's also worth looking at those URLs - the number starts with the date and time of listing, so one is from April and one from May. They ain't shifting at those prices, so there may be wiggle room. I'd be looking closely at that last one...

    Thanks for all replies !

Most of you are asking why don't I walk away if I don't like payment terms and warranty terms etc. Couple of points.

    1) The manufacturer warranty expires on 9 Sep 2019, so the car is just about 3 years old. They will only provide 30 days warranty from date of purchase. I am okay buying a car with essentially very minimal warranty. Given the car age and low mileage its unlikely and would be very unfortunate if it develops any problems anytime soon.

    2) Should I walk away if I don't like payment terms (no credit cards accepted!). The true answer is that I don't know and that's exactly the question I am asking here. Should I be worried making an expensive purchase without section 75 coverage ? If things go south for some reason (unlikely), what protection would I have given that I'll make a bank transfer.

Despite the above limitations, the car I am looking to buy is somehow rare in market (with the extras add-on) so I am a little reluctant to walk away and buy elsewhere.

    Many thanks for input.

If its been serviced to schedule, it might be worth checking if you can extend the VW warranty. You should be able to.

Doesnt resolve the other problems though
  • They aren't allowed to charge the customer the credit card fee anymore so it looks like they have just stopped accepting them.
I used FOW for my last car and it was a very positive experience however I've always bought cars with a credit card so I will not be using FOW again.

They are a business and can make a business decision as to what payment types the accept or don't accept. Either way, in my opinion, relying of S75 to deal with any issues on a used car is, at best, risky.

However, the biggest issue for me would be a dealer that you are spending £20K with not offering you anything better than a 30-day guarantee. I would have walked away already.

Section 75 isn't the only way to to protect my purchase, the warranty also plays a role and then comes the flexibility to accommodate reasonable customer requests. They say a rock solid NO to all of the above.

Feels like their business must be thriving enough that they don't really care if some deals goes amiss. That's the vibe I get speaking to them over phone with 2 or 3 different people. Also never got a call back from the sales manager so I wouldn't recommend them either.

true, I just can't convince myself paying £20k using a debit card or bank transfer.

Thank you for the effort, I have been pretty actively looking at autotrader so I've come across some of those you posted. I'm little picky which Unfortunately lacks from your adverts, 5 door is a must have, white colour preferred etc.

Thanks for the effort once again.

In days gone by we got a bankers draft. Seemed a lot less bother to buy a car then.

    For the right car,
    at the right price,
    you should be thinkin' about...

    looking elsewhere!

(for those not familiar, the above is a parody of the rather annoying Fords of Winsford radio ad)

Not fool proof though. And a risk of the draft having been stolen.

I've never had a particular issue with paying for a car - debit card or bank transfer never causes an issue.

If its that specific a car and you cant wait for another to appear or compromise, you might have to look at what i was suggesting which is check if the manufacturers warranty can be extended and budget for doing it.
