Credit card payment not accepted by Fords of Windsord

I am looking to buy a used car worth about £20k from Fords Of Winsford and having spoken to them they won't accept credit card (part payment or full) at all. Beside that they only offer a 30 days warranty as opposed to some other dealers who include 12 month warranty as a part of sale. Should I be concerned that I will have no section 75 coverage and only 30 day warranty given its such a large purchase.

Secondly, anyone have any feedback about their experience with Fords Of Winsford ? Having spoken to them on the phone they seem pretty dry and inflexible to anything I requested for. Almost feels like they don't really care whether they get new business or now.

They can choose what payment methods they'll accept. If they won't accept ANY part of the payment (even £10) by CC then I'd suggest walking away if S75 cover is important.

An alternative may be to arrange finance for the purchase and then pay off the loan. Not sure if S75 cover would still apply though as the loan contract would have completed ... with a CC it tends to be a rolling contract (whilst you maintain the account) in which case this would have been only one of many transactions.

If you don't like the warranty, their payment methods, or their customer service, then why aren't you simply voting with your feet and wallet, and buying a different car from somebody else?

Because then the OP couldn’t come on here and moan about it. I’m intrigued to find out what the OP is spending 20k on that isn’t at least still under manufacturers warrnety.

They're currently showing a fair choice of 2016 and older stuff that's around that price.

Obvs, some of those might be near the end of a 3yr warranty, and there's some that'll have longer, but it's not hard to buy a £20k out-of-warranty premium-brand that would have been considerably more new.
  • I know nothing about this garage, but have you considered that they might not even have a merchant services agreement, or one that only covers debit cards?

No retailer is obliged to accept any particular method of payment for a purchase. If you don't like the payment methods on offer, there are other garages.

Ask to pay deposit by CC, say £500. Does sound iffy.

I'm with Adrian on this - i'd just vote with my feet and go elsewhere.

If the O/P is finding this many issues before they buy a car, imagine what the dealer will be like if there are any problems post sale.

I was wrongly assuming it was a Ford maindealer selling Fords, completely missed the fact that we are talking about a part of the country where premier league footballers and TV celebs live

    Thanks for all replies !

Most of you are asking why don't I walk away if I don't like payment terms and warranty terms etc. Couple of points.

    1) The manufacturer warranty expires on 9 Sep 2019, so the car is just about 3 years old. They will only provide 30 days warranty from date of purchase. I am okay buying a car with essentially very minimal warranty. Given the car age and low mileage its unlikely and would be very unfortunate if it develops any problems anytime soon.

    2) Should I walk away if I don't like payment terms (no credit cards accepted!). The true answer is that I don't know and that's exactly the question I am asking here. Should I be worried making an expensive purchase without section 75 coverage ? If things go south for some reason (unlikely), what protection would I have given that I'll make a bank transfer.

Despite the above limitations, the car I am looking to buy is somehow rare in market (with the extras add-on) so I am a little reluctant to walk away and buy elsewhere.

    Many thanks for input.
