Please can someone help? Instead of being billed £15.66, I'm being charged £23.99 after credit is applied. It also seems like they're adding VAT, but I'm sure I'd read that their prices included VAT at the time of signing up. It may be that I've misunderstood the offer or the bill, but can someone please clarify?
£23.99 is way off the £15.66 I was expected to be charged.

    Hi warmasice,
Effective monthly cost takes into account the deal that's on offer so we subtract the value of these 'rewards' from the total price you'd pay over the contract (including any upfront delivery or activation costs), then divide that by the number of months to show you how much in effect you're paying each month.

In order to factor in the reward, it must either be cashback or a voucher that can be spent on a wide range of goods. In this case, it's bill credit to you within 3 months.

Shell's bills don't quiet explain but the standard price for your broadband is actually £26.66/mth but there's a bill credit of £6.67 to bring this down to the advertised price of £23.99. Shell will then apply a bill credit to your account within 3 months. From previous posts, you'll see this bill credit applied pre-VAT so it may appear less than £100 but VAT is then added as a seperate entry on your bill so it is in fact £100.

    I hope this helps explain,

    MSE Chris

    Hi poundsNpence,
Thanks for letting me know. Shell's agents may only be aware of the blanket Terms and Conditions and might not be aware of our own arrangement. This was made for all customers who applied through us (MSE) and if you applied through us and are charged a cease charge, do let me know as I'll need to look into this as a priority.

As of yet, we haven't yet been approached by anyone who has applied through us and charged this cease charge so I'm just hoping it's an agent error at this stage.

    Many thanks,
    MSE Chris
    Thanks Chris
Yes, seems quite likely that's the case, although Shell have replied to me today saying they are going to contact MSE as they (or at least the agent who replied to my enquiry) is still saying the cease charge applies, regardless of the application path.
My contract expires early September, I'll likely stay with Shell (they've confirmed the monthly cost will stay at the current £16.98) but will update here if any changes or issues.

    All the best

    Hi again poundsNpence,

Shell got back to us and it's reassured us that the cease charge won't apply. It's also communicated this again with it's agents. I'm sorry you were given incorrect info on that occasion but hopefully Shell's agents are now aware.

    Many thanks,
    MSE Chris
  • Idk if this is the right thread but here goes.

I signed up for Shell back in March with the service starting in early april. It's been fairly good with occasional drops - we have thick walls and the range of the router is a bit cack, but the internet itself is generally pretty solid.

I signed up on the £34.99 a month deal, so I pay 29.99 a month and got a £75 amazon voucher. However I was under the impression this also came with a £50 credit; I chased them about it and got told it would apply within 90 days, only today I've been told the 29.99 deal doesn't qualify for the £50 voucher and have been pretty nasty about shutting me down about it.

Am I just being a moron, or are Shell lying to me?

    Hi RubiconArt,

If it helps, if you went via a link from MSE, we had £75 bill credit offer only on Superfast Fibre+ from 21st March through 6th April.

It might be that you went through Shell directly or another price comparison site (perhaps Broadband Genie)? I seem to recall they've done an Amazon voucher AND bill credit offer in the past with Shell.

If that's the case, the Amazon voucher would usually be issued by Broadband Genie whilst any sort of bill credit will be issued by Shell themselves.

I hope this is useful to you,
    MSE Chris

  • @Chris -

I went through MSE most definitely and received an amazon voucher, the offer was right on it's last days when I claimed it back in April.
If it was just the £75 voucher then I'm being dumb and didn't read it properly, but I was under the impression it was the amazon voucher and a 50 credit from Shell.
    Definitely through MSE though!

    Thanks, Jay.

    Hi RubiconArt,

I've just cracked open the archives just to double check and there was a £75 Amazon voucher offer with that package at the time. It expired 9th March. Hopefully you can see the screenshot below but this was the deal in full and confirms there was no bill credit for this one sadly. It was only after this offer that we switched to offering auto bill credit:

Any questions or can't see the above, just let me know.
I hope it reassures you that you've received all the vouchers that you were entitled to for this particular deal :)

  • Thanks Chris - I am suffering from morondom, as per usual... I think I may have to apologise to an employee :')
  • Hi

I joined Shell Broadband via the MSE link last year.  My contract ends on 4-9-2020.  The Shell Broadband CS advisor said I have to pay a £15 cease charge.  I mentioned how I joined via Martin Lewis's Moneysavingexpert website however he said I still have to pay.

    Please can you help?
  • Hi, I’ve just been through the same issue as the above post. Spoke to an advisor at Shell and they’ve told me I need to pay the £15 cease charge even tho I signed up using the MSE link in August 2019.
    Can you assist please
