My car has been blocked in

Hi

Earlier this morning a car parked right it front of mine and also in front of my neighbours drive, blocking us both in. Called police who showed up, took a look at the car and have now left. I literally can't move my car and it's the same with my neighbour. Are the police obligated to move the car? Another neighbour said she saw two one car park across the road and the other right outside my house so I am thinking it may be stolen or something.

Any ideas? I have an appointment tomorrow morning!

What did the police say? They must have taken a view on what could be done or did you just let them leave without explanation?

Sorry, should have clarified. It was not me who called the police and by the time I had time to check what was happening, they were gone. Neighbour said they were consulting with traffic police but no clue when he expects the car to be moved. Curious to know whether it is a police issue just in case they try to fob us off.

It is give them a call and ask for it to be moved.

Ok. I would contact the police yourself as a separate complainant. They may divulge what progress they've made on your neighbour's call.

Check the car's MOT, tax and insurance status online. It might give you clues to support the theory that it's been abandoned.

As to what to do tomorrow morning, I'd be working on a contingency. A lift from a friend, a taxi, etc. Some people might suggest a few mates to bounce the car the few feet you probably only need to move it to make your exit possible, but the last thing you want is the chance that the owner starts causing problems and you're wasting time and energy dealing with the consequences.
  • I thought it was an offence to prevent someone (in this case the neighbour) from gaining access to the highway? (One of our neighbours had a similar problem a couple of years ago - blocked into his drive - and IIRC the police offered to tow it.)

But if the OP is simply blocked in by another car(s) parked too close to them in ordinary on-street parking, I'm not sure.

The police should be moving it, they do a PNC and if its local will knock. Or gets towed.

Called 101 and tell them you need to access highway.

Also call council parking so it gets a ticket in the meantime.

Sounds like you live in Greater London if you expect any of that to happen.

They blocked the OP in by parking too close on the road but they also blocked the OP's neighbour by parking over their drive way

Borrow a decent trolley jack and with help you should be able to swing the car round by 90° and move it enough to get out .
I once did that and left the car blocking half the road....the police soon sorted it then .
