was that aimed at me? Have you any idea how hard is it to get DLA? And you don't get top rate care for nothing. I resent posts like this, as you have no idea what my life is like, how I struggle to do everyday tasks, never mind work.
If I could work I would - cos it's not just about the money, but about the social status that goes with working and sense of self worth.:j £2 coins = £2.00 :j0 -
Swinging the lead - A person pretending to work (or claiming to be ill) when he is not.
Pre-modern days, seamen would check the depth of water by dropping
a lead weight, attached to a thin marked rope, to the bottom of a
waterway. Some lazy sailors would take as long as possible about it.
They would swing the lead to and fro several times instead of just
dropping it straight into the water.
Thanks for that, I didnt know the history, but it was the "swinging the leg" that got me!0 -
Seggy 1 have you any idea how much pain some people are in constantly just doing what you would find easy ie getting showered or dressed? I don`t think you can have any idea. Both my son (who works but still gets DLA) and my husband had to go through so much to get benefits and I can assure you they both would rather be fit and well.0

There was an article in our local news paper last night regarding new rules they say that it will be made difficult for people and they are sure that 50% of people will not pass the new test. This is worrying for people who are ill and the stress really makes matters worse.0

Once again it will be the genuine people who are sick and ill that will suffer and thats just unfair. Why is it always genuine people who have to suffer?Have you got a job yet?

Because the people who are genuine don't make a song and dance about the condition they have.
As where as the ones who lies and cheats shout loud enough to get their own way.
I have seen first hand how my husband was admitted to hospital unwell but came home hardly able to work and can't use his left hand due to having a stroke.
No one can even begin to understand what the hell he has been through physically and mentally. I am not sure he can ever go back to work again due to the brain damage caused by the stroke.
And to get DLA and IB we had to fill loads of forms and he was just discharged from hospital. I was like !!!!!!. If he had not had me help him he would have got very little.
So the people in need are kicked when they most need the help.
But that is life.

How about you see if I can fit an 8hr job round what I do every day.
6.30am I wake up & make sure my missus hasn't died while I've been asleep, I also have to make sure she doesn't lie on her back during the night or she'll suffocate. I have to help her to get out of bed, dress, wash, go to the toilet all those things you take for granted. I have to sort out her medication every day, prepare food & help her eat it, I also have to force the youngest of our monsters to get ready for school.
When you find me a nurse or home help who's willing to be here at 3 in the morning to help my missus to the loo & wipe her butt for her & help her back to bed afterwards & to be here 24hrs a day to do the same I'll go out & get a job & leave the NHS to pick up the pieces, I think you'll find that is more expensive than giving me 50p an hour benefits to give her 24hr care.Winnings

I totally agree if I went out to work and they had to pay someone else to come in and look after my husband they would have to pay more than the care alowance they pay me.0

Hi folks, had to join in here. I had always gone out to work and also raised my 6 children so had always been a very active and busy person. I was diagnosed with arthritis about 7 yrs ago but still worked and was later awarded middle care DLA. i was off work having physiotherapy, after a R.T.A and i was then diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and as a result of this i was offered early retirement from a job i loved. When it was time to make a fresh claim for the D.L.A i was turned down!!!! and appealed it twice and lost. I was seen to deserve it for the arthritis yet when i have a new chronic illnessi was turned downWe are having to move to a bungalow when one becomes available cos of this illness. There are loads of people genuine and it really is so hard to get this D.L.A now and the lead swingers are all over the place. I think it is terrible when you are deserving of this money, and you hear certain ones bumming about what they get and finding it funny. It really makes me so annoyed, but i try to stay positive and i understand about real pain and hardships people have when they are turned down, and really deserve the helpDo a little kindness every day.;)0

I would take no notice of this poster (seggy 1), we have had this discussion many times, you can't make people believe you are ill/disabled if they don't want to.
As many people have said 'you can have my benefit if you have my disability'.
Just ignore them.(AKA HRH_MUngo)
