British Gas Warm Home Discount.

It's paid for your electric and not gas, although some will allow you to use it for gas. As you don't have your electric through British Gas you can't apply.I used to be with British Gas for both fuels and I knew the dates to apply. I just didn't realise you had to have your electricity supply with them to qualify.0 -
Im with SSE (electric only we don't have gas) and they haven't even opened the scheme for this year yet.

Just a bit of advice to those with smaller suppliers who are not part of the scheme, although my energy supplier was listed as not part of the scheme on mse last year, I phoned them anyway to be told that yes they are on the register as offering the Warm Home Discount.
Although I don't qualify under the initial criteria, I did qualify as a disabled person under the broader criteria & received a payment.
So check with your supplier first, as like me, you may find out you'll qualify for this very welcome help towards your energy bill. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
SSE scheme is now open! I applied for mine today.0

Anybody who has received the WHD before 2019 should know that from 2019 you will not be advised by your fuel supplier when applications for WHD open in 2020, my supplier Scottish Gas stopped informing claimants this year 2019 and have I was told by their WHD team that telephone applications have also stopped, you need to apply via their app or online.
Be aware that the £140 is taxed before being applied to your account and HMRC will use it as income in any tax calculation.
As from 2019 the WHD payment can be applied to either your Electricity or Gas and not just your Electricity as was the case before 2019.
Scottish Gas use a company called CHARIS who process your application, they are completely inept, I applied in August and provided all required documentation for WHD, as of yesterday 25.11.2019 they haven't even started looked at my application, their response was we are too busy with backlogs, they act like DWP...we'll do our work at our pace!. SG are using this company as are other suppliers and after some investigation on CHARIS, they are a family run business according to Companies House with 25 staff. CHARIS's website looks like it's been setup by 2 10 year olds, even their contact telephone is wrong, they use a portal to send your documents to them, which again looks so amateurish, if your over 50, you will find difficult to use!. I spoke to an adviser at CHARIS yesterday who constantly gave wrong information regarding how the WHD criteria for applicants is applied. I will today make a formal complaint to Scottish Gas as to why they are using a company that can clearly not handle the volume of application for WHD.0 -

Don't people who qualify (irrespective of supplier) get a letter telling them they qualify? And on the reverse of that letter is a list of suppliers within the scheme. So if you are not with a qualifying supplier you switch before the end Feb 2020 to make sure you get the discount.
Anyone with such a letter?Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.
