Thanks. When I get this sorted I’ll have a look at that.
It won’t let me uninstall a Security update done 17/8. Assume that’s ok?
Depends on whether it's causing you an issue or not.
I don't experience these problems, as all of my Updates are deferred. To give the masses time to complain and for Microsoft to fix the issue.
Move to Pro if not already there and defer Updates. Otherwise, you end up being the second line of defence, behind the Insiders.0 -

Yes. That’s what I always do on my iPhone.
Not sure how it happened but the big update started automatically on Thursday evening 16/8. Must have clicked the wrong option as I’d been deferring it since the almost daily reminders started.0 -

Why would you get a reminder if the update is deferred??
If it's deferred, you won't even know about it.0 -

OK I'm obviously using the wrong term 'deferred'. I remember selecting something like 'remind me .....'
Anyway
Sadly, that hasn't fixed the issue. I'm now using Ethernet.
At least I can now search for solutions & be able to read them.
My problems started months ago, with what turned out to be multiple phone line, cabinet & possibly router issues. I thought these had all be fixed a couple of weeks ago after several visits from 2 engineers & a new router. Apart from occasional dropouts, all was then ok.
Then on Thursday 16th I noticed both iphones and ipad wouldn't connect automatically, but worked ok when connected manually.
Then laptop wouldn't connect at all.
No real idea what to try next and grateful for any pointers.0 -

Firstly, you need to ascertain if the problem is with the wireless Router.
Is the router transmitting on 2.4GHz or 5 GHz?0 -
Sorry I don't know. It is capable of both I think.
BUT wifi is working fine on 2 iphones & ipad, so I'm fairly sure its not the router - but I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong:o
edit my phone currently working on wifi 5G0 -
iProducts will be capable of connecting to WiFi at 5GHz. Laptop might not.0

Ok, I didn't know that. So, what do you suggest?0 -
Try resetting the tcpip stack .. like this ..
First , open an admin command prompt by typing CMD into the search box and when you see "command prompt" in the list, RIGHT click it and choose "run as administrator".
Then , type the following commands in order - you might need to restart after each one, but if you do then just open up another command window sin the same way ..
After you have finished, let us know if the issue persists ..
arp -d *
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
netsh interface ipv4 reset
netsh interface ipv6 reset
netsh interface tcp reset
netsh int reset all
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh advfirewall reset
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
nbstat -R
nbstat -RR
By the way, have you scanned for malware ?
Also, have you tried to set your mobile phone as a hotspot to see if the computer can connect to that ? Just to narrow down the search for the problem0 -

Thanks Andy I have bookmarked this suggestion for future ref.
Having lost patience, I disconnected laptop from Ethernet & switched it off, also switched off router again.
After about 10 mins I switched router back on, followed by laptop. Initially laptop said it was unable to connect to router, but then proceeded to do so!
I scanned for malware a couple of weeks ago but will run another scan, just in case.
Re the mobile, I tried that this morning and laptop wouldn't connect to phone as hotspot.
Throughout today, 2 iphones & ipad have been connecting to wifi ok (obviously not while router off!) but seem to randomly switch between the 5G & 2.4(?). I don't know whether that is significant or not.
I'm reluctant to disturb things now its working, or would you recommend I 'reset the tcpip stack' whatever that means:o
Really appreciate folks trying to help.0
