On the subject of BT - I have just found £82 worth of BT telephone stamps in my loft, totally forgotten about until now - BT inform me there is no longer a means for using the stamps - is it fair that BT just TAKE my £82? Any ideas what I should do now?0

Line rental with BT, calls with Talk Talk
Had this charge for 1571 appear for the first time on the BT bill for December.
Is it possible to cancle 1571 with BT but then have the Talk Talk 'Voicemail' service which they state is free?VoicemailService Description Standard Voicemail Callers can leave you a message if you don't answer or if your line is engaged.
Never miss a message - it could be important!
TalkTalk per month £0.00
BT per month £0.000 -
I think the messaging service is always the responsibility of whoever you pay your line rental to.
Before I got my own answer machine, I had my calls routed through the Utility Warehouse, but they told me as my line rental was still with Telewest, they had to be the ones to set up the message service.
It was easier to get a new phone which incorporated an answer machine.
No worries about extra or hidden charges then0 -
That would require you to hand over your line rental to Talk Talk too.Line rental with BT, calls with Talk Talk

Not a good idea IMHO.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Well I've just received my November quarterly bill and have found the 1571 'one off charge' on there also.
The thing is I use paperless billing and at no point have I been informed by BT that this charge was coming in. Is it therefore even legal for them to charge me it?
Just picked up my quarterly bill online to find £2.55 (£3 inc VAT) charge for 1571 and £4.46 (£5.25 inc) charge for 'caller display' - an extra £8.25/quarter!
I have queried this with BT by email who have confirmed these new charges (from 1st August) will be added to all customers who make less than 6 calls/quarter.
"...I can see that your call charges are routed to a different service provider, in this case you have to make at least six calls through BT. You can do this by simply putting 1280 before the full number to be dialled. The subsequent call will then be charge at appropriate BT rates once you are connected"
So it seems I can avoid both BT charges by making just 6 minimum cost calls on the BT account during the quarter. My service provider is AOL Talk where all my calls are currently free. It would have been nice to have been told these new charges was were being introduced!0 -

The new charges were announced in BT Bill inserts, and have been discussed here numerous times. Have a read of Heinz,s post

I am also in this position...My 85 year old Mother has gone into a care home, and whilst sorting out her things found over £120 worth of stamps....Tried numerous BT numbers but can get no sense from anyone...Half the calls end up in India, where people have no idea what a BT stamp was ...!!!!!On the subject of BT - I have just found £82 worth of BT telephone stamps in my loft, totally forgotten about until now - BT inform me there is no longer a means for using the stamps - is it fair that BT just TAKE my £82? As no one answered the previous query on this, I think the question has got lost under a different topic.
