i7 processor worth extra £124 over the i5 processor

That doesn't really matter. OP hasn't bought the laptop yet, so it is fine to give an opinion on a laptop with a different CPU.
No. OP asked about a 'Huawei matebook 13.' Sure, suggest another laptop, and give reasons. You suggested a Ryzen CPU. Not useful.0 -

I didn't suggest anything, you are getting mixed up with different people.
Still, my original point still stands, the OP hasn't purchased the laptop yet, so people are free to weigh in with different options.0 -
If the university hasn't made any stipulations about what computer they should be buying then I am guessing that there isn't any study specific software suggested and so all they are looking for is basic typing up reports, making up presentations, none of which will particularly tax any CPU, except if they are going overboard with PowerPoint slide transition animations and sound effects which they really ought not to be doing if they want to end the course with any friends.(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)0

Sure, but it was a bit, well, light and vague, don't you agree? With the latest Ryzen CPU's i would not opt for an i5 or i7.
Lower power and more cores for less money?
I don't see any laptop recommendations in there to justify pulling OP away from a laptop they're already looking at.0 -
I got this message “I was looking at a laptop and wondering would you think it was worth giving another £124 for the i7 processor over the i5 processor? It's a Huawei matebook 13.”
As someone who was once a medical student, the requirements are going to be low: create word documents and powerpoint presentations, use the internet, play videos. They might have some software with medical textbooks, but that's about it.They are a medical student.
In short, i5 will be more than adequate.0 -
an i3 may out perform an i7 - it depends on how many generations between them. Compare apples with apples, also use cpu bench marking sites
I'm surprised this hasn't been stated more. i5 and i7 just different platform, you have high spec i5 and low spec i7. You need to get the exact CPU models and compare them to a benchmark website. while an i7 has better architecture and the potential to be better, you can have an i5 that is just brute force powerful with a faster clock speed.0 -
Can anyone help?
