Oh - I hope your ISP is not like mine was until last year... They had a restriction which meant that you could not change or delete your primary email address!

Apologies if you already know this, but if you add or remove email accounts, you need to do so both at the server (the ISP's end) and in Outlook on your PC.

If you have removed the old account from Outlook but not from the ISP end then incoming email will just pile up in your webmail account (which is effectively just viewing what is queued waiting to be delivered on the server).

If you can find the "My account settings" for your Virgin/NTL account, you should easily find where to manage email accounts, and so be able to delete your old email address (if they will let you) and turn off "catchall" if they operate such an option.

    Good luck!

Well its just got worse. I deleted the old email address from the ISP end...on the Virgin page....leaving just my new email address and then logged out. And now it won't let me log in to the page at all, either with the old email address or the new one.

Don't panic (yet!). I recently made some changes to email addresses for a friend, and it took some time (in his case about 30mins) for the changes to take effect. So you may find that it sorts itself out without further action.

Nope, still can't get into the Virgin page with either email address.

I have been spending the past 2 hours informing friends and companies of my new email address. Not amused to put it politely.

    MK - go away. :D

    teehee i'm evil :p

Anyway its always good to get a new email address every now and then :) Personally you should have one for business, one for personal. ONLY give personal one to friends and family, and you can use business one for forums, msn (hint), shopping etc...

Also I recommend gmail, has an AMAZING spam filter which will just take out all the junk and put it in a seperate folder by default :) Obviously you can change its behaviour too :)

My grandma managed to set up a gmail account the other day and loves it haha

  • Forget outlook. Download Mozilla Thunderbird. A free and better open source alternative which looks nicer and is faster/easier to use. This can be configured with Gmail too. Mcafee is stuck. It has a task to scan 156 messages but the account no longer exists so it prob has a load of errors in its logs saying can't find emaiil 1 out of 156..

Try going into the Mcafee spam killer and deleting the jobs? I've never used it so not sure how but hey :)

I don't know how to do that. :(

  • Click lots of things (without changing things) until you see something that sounds reasonable :)

As long as you don't check/uncheck boxes, change deatils, or click any buttons saying "disable" you cant do any harm by clicking on different tabs to try and find a "stop current jobs" type button.

If you find anything similar justp ost it in here ^-^

If I was helpful I'd google it and find out, but I'm working as well so bit busy :(

Just use Thunderbird and Google instead :)

With my Virgin Account there is one main email and what they call aliases. These are superficially different addresses but all operate under the main user name, password and settings.

I second MercilessKiller, I use Thunderbird/gmail and use different emails addresses for different things.

To anyone already using Thunderbird, check out Thunderbrowse.
Thunderbrowse is a mini browser that opens in Thunderbird if you click on a link e.g. MSE newsletter.
