I have just received about 500 emails from postmaster@carlislegroup.co.uk. The heading of the email says Delivery Status Notification. I have not sent any emails today and not to carlislegroup. It says, Delivery to the following recipients failed - Worthing@target.local

I have no connection with either email address.

I have AVG 7.5, Ccleaner and McAfee and run them regularly. I have a pc with Windows XP and I use FireFox.

300 came through, then a few minutes later, another 200. And just now another 50? Do I need to do anything or hope that its just a glitch?

  • Either you, or more likely, someone who has your email address also has spamming software on their PC.

Download and run Spybot and Adaware and check Windows Defender just to make sure it's not your PC that's sending the spam

You mean, the player that scored our first goal under extreme pressure and got us back in the match? Errrrr ok?? ;)

They were ALL poor, apart from Crouchy. Glad that McClaren has gone, we need The Special One in charge. :D

Right, I have spent the last hour and a half running CCleaner, AVG, SkyBot and I have installed Windows Defender and I have run McAfee as well.

I restarted the computer, and I am still receiving hundreds of the same email. There is a bit more detail in them now, they originate from an email I sent yesterday to a recruitment company in Worthing. But not called Carlisle or worthing@target... and I have emailed this recruitment company before at that email address and they rang me back after receiving it, so they shouldn't think I am spam!! Should I ring them?

I am not sure what to do now, I am getting hundreds of them! :(

This STILL hasn't been sorted out.:mad::mad: I have been receiving hundreds a day for the past 12 days. The recruitment company now say that the original email originated from them but they have done a complete check and they have only sent me 7 in the past week. The problem is with my ISP, which is NTL. They think that NTL is bouncing back emails to me. So I rang NTL........25p a minute........furious at that! He was talking at 200mph and got the ar&e when I asked him to slow down a bit!!!! He said there was nothing NTL could do and that I would have to change my email address. I am furious! I have now changed it and guess what.......I still get the message, when I click on Outlook,........Processing 1/156 messages.:mad: How can I still be getting them if I have changed my email address???????????????

I do not actually see the messages any more because I also spent £20 on a McAfee security thingy with SpamKiller so cannot give you any information on the content of the emails other than what I said in previous posts.

I am at a loss, I am out of pocket, have changed my email address so have a lot of work there to try and remember who I need to let know, which has really pis&ed me off and I am still getting them!! The Recruitment Company are doing all they can but they cannot talk to NTL on my behalf. It is both of their faults but I am the one who is having to sort it and be charged along the way.

    Please help anyone?? :(

A couple of things to check - when you changed your email address, did you add a new account in Outlook and then remember to go into Accounts and delete the old account?

If that's not the problem, can you check to see whether your ISP has a "catchall" email option? They may call it something different, but the effect is that <anything>@yourdomain.ntl.com would get delivered to your primary email address. My ISP has this and it is turned on by default, which is irritating, but not difficult to disable when you know what to look for...

I can't see a new account in Outlook, just my new email address in the Accounts option. My mail goes to pop.ntlworld.com.

Where would I find this catchall option?

Sorry, I'm not an NTL customer, so I can't say specifically for that ISP. With my ISP you have to log in to their "Manage my account" web portal, then edit the email options to turn it off.

Right. I've logged into the Webmail Virgin page, (I had to log in using my old email address......) got me onto my own page there and the inbox, and ,my emails are now going into there, and not my Outlook as it still shows in there my old email address. I don't get it, I have definitely changed my email address as I sent an email to myself just to check, and it has definitely changed.

Oh - I hope your ISP is not like mine was until last year... They had a restriction which meant that you could not change or delete your primary email address!

Apologies if you already know this, but if you add or remove email accounts, you need to do so both at the server (the ISP's end) and in Outlook on your PC.

If you have removed the old account from Outlook but not from the ISP end then incoming email will just pile up in your webmail account (which is effectively just viewing what is queued waiting to be delivered on the server).

If you can find the "My account settings" for your Virgin/NTL account, you should easily find where to manage email accounts, and so be able to delete your old email address (if they will let you) and turn off "catchall" if they operate such an option.

    Good luck!
