    In post 10 the op asks where to enter commands so I'd assume he hadn't found that, wouldn't you?
    Confirmed in post 30 "I changed from Mint to Ubunto becauise I was under the impression, from others, it would be easier but with Mint I know where the terminals are".

    Commands look like nonsense to me, sorry if that offends you. If you consider yourself a geek that’s your choice but I haven’t said that.

    OK we have got further now when you click on the Network icon on the bottom what does that say (oh and have you still got the ethernet cable in ?)

    command not found. I assume that is not a fullstop between sudo and Ishw and that it is capital i shw.

    Please remember that this is now running on Mint again.

    No the ethernet cable is conmnected to another laptop that I use just basically as a word processor . Should I connect it up again.

    Yes unless the wifi is showing on the network settings with various network id's
