Why is there no spam button for the above?
  • Sorry, I thought this was a car insurance thread? I was hoping that people would find it interesting, given that it's designed to save young lives and loads of money on insurance! In fact, I consider it a pretty shameless plug! :)

  • Im trying to renew my car insurance or find a cheaper quote through the compare websites, Im paying £32ish a month now, this year to insure the same car (with 1 year more no claims added) it has risen to $45-50ish a month - is this right due to price hikes??
I thought I might be paying a little less

    Thanks

  • Hi,

My insurance is up for renewal. I am currently on my husbands insurance but I'm taking out my own this year. I was hit by third party this year - do i have to report that I have had the accident to the insurance company regardless of the fact that i did not claim from my insurance and it was not my fault.

    Thanks

    Yes .
  • I-cube the insurance for young drivers was cheap as it prevented you from using your car between 11pm & 5am.
My lad who was 18 took out insurance with them and the total came to £1060 that inc £96 for the tracker. £500 cheeper than anything else.
This year with 1 years ncb they wanted £1760.Their excuse was they use a different insurance company from the one they
    were using last year.
Shopped around and have found him a quote for £1128.
  • I have a 1.4l VW Polo. Because of the area that I live in, me only being 21 and me not having any no claims bonus due to being only a named driver for the last 4 years even after comparing quotes and looking around the cheapest car insurance I could find was £1500 with an excess of £1050 on the car. The insurance will run through until summer 2011 but my company is shipping me out to Sweden for 3 months from February 2011. My car will be left in a secure garage at my mums house when im away. Do you think that when im away its worth cancelling my insurance but then losing my first year of no claims or not cancel it so that I get a cheaper renewal price in the summer?

    Any advice would be fantastic

    Thanks

There is another alternative. You can suspend your cover, then reinstate it on your return. This will result in a refund of some premium to you, but your insurance year will still end as originally set up, and you will get a years NCB (assuming no claims).

The downside is that your car won't be covered while the cover is suspended.

Check your policy to see their requirements for suspending it (usually they want the cert. back)

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Currently paying about £32 a month but they said it will be going up to about £43 a month an increase of around £100!! This is with Post Office insurance. They told me it was because 'insurance companies' are putting their prices up by around 30-50% Why??!! Have they not heard of interest rates/inflation rate??

Also, why I originally came to this thread. I have been on a number of comparison sites as suggested in an article here and for my 2002 Peugeot 206 HDI I was quoted prices varying from £300 - £700. I also noticed the part that said 2 companies were not on comparison sites, one being Aviva.... they quoted me £706!! A total of £801 if I pay monthly.... Beware!!!! For monthly payments they charge 39% APR!!!
