It doesn't matter whatever you say to Sam, however encouraging or patient you are, he takes no notice and just repeats the same garbage. He needs professional help.

Probably. But I got a lot of out McDonalds and like people to know that.

  • From what I hear they tend to be a very good employer, and are especially good at helping those who want to progress to make their way through the company.

They are; if you commit and are flexible they'll educate you into all levels of management.

I'm vegetarian now, so not for me any more. But for plenty of people it's a great place to be.

I think they are alright, too (maybe drop the word "very" though). It would actually probably help Sam to get in a place like there, get talking to people and see how they can help with work skills/qualifications etc. Hell even get a girlfriend (because the girls in there are quite unfiltered and easy to connect with if you're just nice to them). Also get fit when you have to flip burgers 8 hours a day.

But, at least in my day, these progression opportunities were a bit of an illusion in that they EXISTED, but not for me they didn't! They regularly put 17/18 year old pipsqueaks in managerial positions after like 2-3 months of being on the job and then they started overcompensating by giving me jib when I stopped to take a breath! I sort of think that Sam wouldn't be able to bite his lip as well as me in those situations, which isn't good (and could be a mental health thing IDK).

They are good at helping certain people in my opinion, and generally more the people who have left school with next to no GCSEs and need that step up on the ladder (though there was the odd occasion where someone got a promotion due to sleeping with a manager!).

That happens in far more exulted circles too!

As an aside, many McDonald's restaurants are franchises although some are directly run. Does the same "alright" / "very good" apply to the franchises too?

Haha it does indeed! But I liked how surprisingly obvious it was in McDonalds as opposed to the craftiness of people in more exulted circles!

Well, I was in a franchise to be fair... I spent a short amount of time in a direct ownership one just before leaving.

Franchise = Not much training except for the right people (I was the only person who could do certain non-cooking jobs properly and I had to push to learn it).

Direct = Everyone trained up in everything and a slightly less "face fit" environment (but I hated it as the messy non-cooking jobs I had previously done/enjoyed were being handled by two people with the same sort of disposition).

I never really saw the progression side of things, other than who got fast tracked to low managerial positions (to refer to Sam, I called the odd one a "pitbull"). There was the occasional story about someone getting their GCSEs via McD on the intranet which was cool, and a few colleagues applied for such a scheme, but it wasn't a case of talent being recognised in that place. More a mix of grooming and "face fitting".

Ultimately, I was studying in university at the time and I had a keen interest in accountancy. There is a very clear reason why I'm not doing the accounts for a McDonalds store right now....

Why do we bother with this same thread every few months? Its always the same. Either Sam is a troll or a very troubled young man.

If he indeed a troubled young man:

    1. You are not better than anyone. You have no qualifications and no job experience. No one wants to pay you to do anything because you are not worth it to them. You are not better than anyone. You are literally worthless.

    2. Those people you think you are better than, passed the online tests. They not only turned up to interview but the people liked them enough to hire them. To PAY them money in return for their services. No one wants to do that to you.

    3. Go to Uni. Get in student debt. You won't succeed and you certainly wont get a hotel management job afterwards with no experience of working. not gonna happen! I have never seen a worse candidate to go to Uni. You may as well go burn some money. but you dont have money to burn because no one wants to pay you for your services

    4. Your attitude is horrendous. People have tried to give you encouragement and good advice so many times. You dont deserve their time or their energy. No one wants to spend time or energy on you.

Honestly people telling you to 'refresh your CV!' 'keep your linked in up to date' are in cloud cuckoo land. You have nothing to put on linkedin or a CV. You have no experience, no qualifications, a terrible attitude and no prospects.

    A very harsh post!

But sadly, wholly accurate and realistic

If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I think the OP, along with all his AEs, has now been banned again. I will therefore lock the thread, as it seems wrong to discuss him while he doesn't have right of reply.
