We've had to cancel due to a death (father in law) We lost out. Our policy covered myself, husband and son. Just OH and myself were going originally, and then son and friend decided to come very last minute so booked their flights separately. We paid for everything but had to cancel 2 days later. Got the money back for myself, husband and son, but not for sons friend because he was not covered on our policy.
You should have taken insurance out for yourself as soon as the holiday was booked.
Sorry to hear that. I don't suppose son's friend's family have cover although probably wouldn't apply to him travelling alone.
It may seem heartless to point out, as we are doing, that people need adequate cover as soon as they book, read Ts&Cs etc. but the more people that read it then maybe there will be fewer sorry tales after the event. :money:0 -

Hi. It was 2008, so many years ago, and to be honest money was the last thing on our minds at that time. Apart from that my husband nearly died 5 days later (pulmonary embolism). Had we actually flown he probably would have come home in a box. XL went bust as well so we'd have been stuck in Lanzarote even if everything had gone ok. It was several weeks after FIL death that I finally submitted a claim, only because mother in law persuaded me to. Father in law died of cancer, which I obviously knew he had, and our travel was obviously dependent on his health, but I hadn't declared it to the insurers so didn't expect to be able to claim. How mistaken I was. With the exception of son's friends flights I got the whole lot back less than 2 weeks after sending the claim.0
