I once hit a traffic island at about 30 mph (got distracted by the kids in the back of the car) in my Corsa many years ago. (Steel wheels, not alloys). The wheel rim was a bit bent (easily tapped back into shape) but that's all - suspension etc. was thankfully OK.

I'm a pretty vigilant speller but not long ago (2:40pm -ish) I accidentally inserted an apostrophe that wasn't visible in the slightest due to the brightness on the screen of my phone. I do realise some might blame me for not proof reading but surely it has to be better marked than that? A small little mark in the centre of a badly lit sentence? I'm conflicted whether to push the issue or not. Had to leave the sentence pretty much in situ with the risk of getting fines from the spelling police. Oh well....

Think I need to just suck it up? I'm a bit stuck and don't know if I can afford the time an edit may cost.

Junctions arent that hard to work out. The centre line typically runs down the centre of the road splitting it in to two opposing lanes. If you start turning before you get to what is the centre of the junction, youre probably going to cut it.

For future reference do not start turning in to a junction until your front wheels have passed what appears to be the centre of the road. Worth remembering youll probably want to slow down more than i assume you typically do. If you followed the arrow youve put on the image, you started turning in line with the kerb on the other side of the road, thats just silly.

I think you need to take ownership of this one.

I'd still be inclined to write a strongly worded letter to the Highways Agency and/or appropriate Council, it is pretty poorly maintained and you never know.

Yes, I'm aware how junctions work but appreciate the advice. And no, it's not an inch-perfect dipiction of the manoeuvre but not miles away.

I would suggest that things move somewhat away from personal responsibility and the letter of the law if there exists a junction in a dark and empty industrial estate with virtually no road markings and a completly unmarked concrete obstacle that follows it that will more than likely do your vehicle damage if you make contact then the onus is not only on the driver but also the people who maintain the roads. That not reasonable?

If you and the Renfrewshire council are effectively asking me to always just guess where the center of the road is at all junctions and in all conditions then why have road markings at all? Let's just do away with them and all be better drivers. Is that ultimately what you're saying?

Is that the actual one you hit? To me that dosent look high at all? Certainly no higher than a Kerb? People hit curbs all the time at low speed and dont trash their front axle

I'm not sure what the damage is yet apart from a flat but I can assure you that it was a fair old wallop it got.
