Btw guys, my speed is a rough estimate. To be safe I'd maybe change my speed to 20mph, but definatly no more than that I would say.

The OP has obviously failed to see something quite significant in his path, and he/she has my sympathy. Last week, I managed to gently reverse a large minibus into a massive bollard, painted black and white with retroreflective panels that I drive past every day, so I am not going to judge.

    However, as a general principle:
would you you cut a corner if another car was there...

    Obviously not.
...if no why do it when no other car there

I don't get the logic here. If there is no other car there and you're sure it is safe, why not? There are many possible reasons. I do it all the time.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

Sorry Stu, I think you'll have to suck this one up. I can't see you have a chance of recompense unless you can show that someone else had already reported the problem, it was deemed to require attention and the responsible authority hadn't acted to deal with it in a reasonable time (a bit like a pothole claim).

Like Richard53, I've had one or two embarrassing (thankfully harmless) bumps through inattentiveness or complacency so it's too easy to criticise, but it's a good reminder not to cut corners on your driving (quite literally).

Your barking up the wrong tree trying to get someone else to pay for you driving over them islands. You would of had to of looked when you turned right, you would of seen the road and the kerbs but your brain didn't compute them before you decided to cut the corner.

It would be best to raise it with your council and ask them to repaint road marks.
It could be dangerous if someone standing there waiting to cross the road in dark.

It's not that I saw them and my brain didn't compute - my eyes were wide open but I can assure you that the poor lighting tied in with the almost non-excitant road markings made it really tricky to spot any hazards on the road in the first place.

Turns out non illuminated things are hard to see at night. Funny that.

As it's beside an airport and I spotted a good few people lugging bags etc up that road and taxis flying round the corner I would agree.

Funnily enough, because that street is the closest you can park to the airport without getting charged, all the taxi drivers park there. After speaking to one last night he confirmed that he done almost the exact same thing not too long ago. Don't know if he reported it though. And silly me, I didn't ask.
