Drove over a central traffic island!

Hi guys, not sure if this is the correct location for this post. Apologies if not.

Just looking for some advice. I'm a pretty vigilant driver but early this morning (1am-ish) I accidentally drove over the side of a traffic island that wasn't visible in the slightest due to how dark it was and the lack of markings. I do realise some might blame me for cutting the corner slightly but surely it has to be better marked than that? A crumbling, unmarked mess in the centre of a badly lit junction? I'm conflicted whether to push the issue or not. Had to leave the car pretty much in situ with the risk of getting some parking fines. Oh well....

Think I need to just suck it up? I'm a bit stuck and don't know if I can afford the repairs this may cost. Front axle really took a battering.

Here is a quick image to illustrate what I'm saying.

Here are the coordinates for GMaps - 55°51'38.1"N 4°25'29.2"W

Cheers in advance.

I know, I know. Maybe I'm slightly chancing my arm but surely the blame has to partially be put on the very poorly maintained junction? I could basically not even see the road markings either because they are practically non existent.

And yes, my lights were on and was travelling fairly slowly.

    :)

What speed were you doing when turning at the junction?

Pretty slow, probably about 10-15 mph but that kerb is sharper and higher than it looks. Just about s**t myself when I went over it.

Given it's been like that for over a year and it's not become enough of an accident blackspot for anything to be done about it then you're probably on a hiding to nothing. To drive over it you've either drifted wide if turning left or cut the corner if turning right.

As above what sort of speed were you doing to have caused such significant damage to your vehicle ?

Cars drive on curbs all the time, in order to park on them.

So you were turning right from Inchinnan Road on to Marchburn Drive?

The street view image of that junction does show poorly-maintained road markings. The island would be near-invisible in the dark, and headlights wouldn't illuminate it very well if you were turning as I asked above.

I did slightly cut the corner whilst turning right but I couldn't make out either the road markings or the island either. I would never have done it otherwise.

And apart from a flat tyre, I'm not sure what the damage will be until I get it to a garage. Suspension etc. There doesn't seem to be much visually wrong with it but it felt like something would of have to have been bent or broken somewhere. And i was driving fairly slow, about 10-15mph.

That's correct, turning right onto Marchburn from Inchinnan. And yes, the island and road markings were basically invisible to me at the time. I had my lights on also.

But not normally head on at, let's say, 15mph?
