New owners claiming house issue post sale

Thanks all for the replies,
and the witty bits which made me relax a bit
Yes I think it's best I don't engage with them, and if they want it to take it further then let's see (but nothing was hidden at all and it is indeed possible it is linked to the work they have got done since then).
For those who asked, during the sale they suddenly claimed they were suddenly not so sure about the heating system and asked for a massive price reduction via the solicitors (a 3 year old system which was fully explained and demonstrated to them from day one...) the estate agent was very frustrated with them and stepped in, so they pulled back.
Have a great week and thanks again!0 -
Have they complained about the grass growing as well?0

Why are they contacting you instead of their builder, who is almost certainly responsible (or irresponsible) Unless you snuck back in the middle of the night and tap danced in the loft, it is not your problem.
Your buyers sound like entitled millenials; are they? Perhaps you could start a thread and invite others to post the most ridiculous claims they have heard post-sale. I remember one person on here who sold to two newly-qualified teachers who sent her a demand for £800 to pay for brand new appliances. Imho, that pales by comparison with your [STRIKE]idiots[/STRIKE] buyers.0 -
Agree with most, it's not your problem now.
Surveys are done for the exact reason.0 -

Our buyer who tried to do a similar thing was a middle-aged surgeon, who didn't know the difference between a full structural survey and a bank's valuation survey...
You've been given good advice OP - we asked for advice on here, were given similar advice to you, but decided to check with a litigation solicitor as the letter we received (from our buyer's solicitor) was pretty frightening.
We should have ignored it, but panicked. One letter from our solicitor and the buyer backed off, but save your money and take the advice to ignore.0 -
Way to go, mufi! That is very generous of you and what this forum is all about (on a good day)
I did ponder the millenials bit; it seems the modern interpretation of entitlement is not solely confined to a certain generation if it is, perhaps, more prevalent therein.0 -
We have one of these every 6 months or so. It doesn't require 27 answers when the best response is always exactly the same: ignore.
Oh , pfftt! That's 28 now!0 -
Just a thought, I wonder if they are not trying to extract money out of you etc but have had a falling out with the builder over the mysterious damage etc ?0

What relevance does a dispute with their builder have to the previous owner, especially if they're not even after money? The two things have literally nothing to do with each other, they might as well send a letter to the local butcher too.0
