Heathrow to London City Airport (or nearby). What's my cheapest / best option?

That's exactly what I'm doing. But aside from the £4.30 option that you mentioned - which is too early - all others are around £25 and more as it gets later...
If I'm doing something wrong I apologise, but I can't see what.
go into the TFL planner and click edit preferences and un check all the options other than tube and DLR and then enter journey to and from and start time0 -
Thanks - you've all been so helpful and I really appreciate it.
Someone has pointed out why I'm getting the high prices. It's because the TFL site defaults to include Heathrow Express as part of the journey, and that seemingly adds a hefty amount to it. So that's that solved!
I don't have contactless but by all accounts it is only around £6 in cash, so I'm happy with that. Certainly better than £25!
The NE coach gets in at "Central Bus Station (for Terminals 2 & 3)". Any tips on where I need to go from there, and where/how to get my ticket would be really helpful. I'm happy to hang around until the tubes start.
Sorry for the excessive hand holding, but I anticipate being a bit bleary eyed and not with it at that time in the morning, so the cleary my plan the better!
Thanks again

that is the easiest route with the least changes and you will have loads of time to do that journey0 -
Some cross posting there, but still most applies0

Yes I can find £24.80 but that is taking the Heathrow Express - AVOID
Select Edit Journey and untick London Overground = Night Service Bus N9 starts 04.30 cost £4.80Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

just get off the coach at central station look for the overhead signs for the underground Piccadilly line tube station, follow the signs and then down the escalator to the tube station for train towards london
if you do want to buy a ticket then you will have to get it from a ticket machine as you enter the tube station0 -

Have none of your credit or debit cards got a contactless facility - for the occasional London trip its invaluable for transportNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

That's why having a copy of the underground map on you will be invaluable - if you hit a snag anywhere on the journey just switch to an alternate route. As a Londoner I would avoid the Overground train - the service can be unreliable and if it goes wrong you are stuck, at least with the tube you can swap lines and take minor detours.
If when you get to the tube at Heathrow it isn't open (and you could google the time of the first train to be forewarned), just grab a coffee and wait, you have plenty of time. If the first train is too long and you prefer not to wait then get the bus as suggested above, but it might be easier to wait for the tube as you would still need to buy a ticket before you use the bus .
When you get to Canning town read the signs, you want a tube to Woolwich Arsenal , and they are clear where you have to wait and which train you can use.
Once at the City airport stop just follow the crowds- you cannot get lost- the terminal is basically at the very end of the platform on a different level/I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. first tube train from Heathrow terminals 2 and 3 towards central London is about 5.10 AM on a weekday
you can pick up a copy of the tube map from the ticket hall at the underground station
@soolin it is the docklands light railway from canning town to London city airport
the overhead dot matrix signs at the DLR station wll tell you what Train to catch0 -

Apologies, to me the whole lot is the tube, using it regularly you tend to overlook the 'branding'.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
