Heathrow to London City Airport (or nearby). What's my cheapest / best option?

Hi

I'm taking a National Express coach Monday night which gets to Heathrow at 04:30 Tuesday morning. I need to then get from Heathrow to London City Airport.

I'm useless when it comes to organising London public transport so I wondered if anyone might be able to lend a hand please? I have seen an option for around £25 using the tube and DLR, with several stops/changes. I wondered if there are any cheaper options or is that as good as it gets?

My flight isn't until 11:20, so if it works out a lot cheaper I'd be happy to get to somewhere near the airport and walk the rest. A few miles would be fine.

Many thanks

    Try TFL journey planner.

    https://tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/results?InputFrom=Heathrow+Airport+Terminals+1-3&FromId=1000105&InputTo=London+City+Airport&ToId=1002000&Date=20190808&Time=0445

I get a journey that takes 1 hour 47 minutes , you are too early for the tube so it starts with a bus. A single ticket is £4.30 for,the whole journey

Number 9 bus to Green Park station (1 hour 4 mins)
Tube jubilee line to Canning Town (19 minutes)
DLR to London City airport (6 mins)

what are you looking at to get a price of £25.00

if i was doing that journey and time was not a problem i would take the Piccadilly line from Heathrow to green park, change at green park to the jubilie line to canning town and then take the DLR to London city airport

that will cost £5.10 at peak times and £3.10 p if you do the journey after 9.30 am and it will take about one and a half hours including transfer time

Thanks soolin. That would be excellent, but my coach doesn't get in until 04:30. If it's early I might just make it I guess, although I've no idea where I need to get from and to (in terms of where NE drops me off and where the proposed journey starts).

    Hi force ten

Sorry, missed your post while responding to Soolin's. If you look at Soolin's link, the later options are the ones I was referring to at £25.

I'm all up for your option, I've just no idea how or what I need to do!

Seagull, I just guessed the times, if you plan your own journey it will update the options. , go and have a play with the TFL Journey planner. The later you leave Heathrow the more options become available as the tube will be running.

Just use the TFL link, it is easy, it will update options as you vary the time of arrival and you can decide as you go along. There is no way any options, except for overground trains and cabs are going to cost anything like £25 for a single trip. Since Heathrow and City airport are on the tube there is no need at all to use an expensive overground train.

if you are coming in to heathrow on national express it will probably stop at terminal five bus station, and Heathrow central bus station

either station will be ok for you to get off, from terminal five get off the bus and take the lift down to the tube station and get a Piccadilly line train to green park, the first stop on this train is heathrow terminal 2 and 3 this is where central bus station is located

if you have a contactless card then you dont need to buy a ticket just use your card to tap in and tap out on the oyster card readers

That's exactly what I'm doing. But aside from the £4.30 option that you mentioned - which is too early - all others are around £25 and more as it gets later...

If I'm doing something wrong I apologise, but I can't see what.

if you start your journey from heathrow before 6.30 am, so you tap in to the tube station before 6.30 am you should be charged the off peak price for the entire journey

if you need to know anything else then give me a shout

try a different way of doing it then:

google a copy of the underground map like this:

    http://content.tfl.gov.uk/standard-tube-map.pdf

Heathrow is bottom left on the Piccadilly Line , London City is bottom right on the DLR.

Then follow the route as suggested by Force Ten . Either get a copy of the Tube map or print one off and follow your journey as you go- take your time, watch the destination boards and you really can't go wrong.
