Multiple NIPs
Hi all,
I got 4 NIPs through the post the other week saying I went past the speed limit on the roadworks on the M1, northbound. The thing is all of the offences are more than 2 months old. After calling them, they said there are 2 more offences and after a second call the number went up to a total of 10 offences within a span of less than a month, all over 2 months old. I drive a company rental, I don't have my own car. I am looking for advice on whether I should pay them all and move on or go to court. The thing is that the date when the oldest NIP was sent out to me is mid-july and the offence happened 2 months prior to the NIP being sent out. I do not have a full British driving licence, I am using my European one. I currently have a clean driving licence. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I got them within less than a week from them being sent out to the registered keeper. But the offences were dated in May and the date on the letters is July. Also, I've never seen the camera flashing, not even once.0

Do they need to flash to tell you that you were speeding? That's not a great defence is it..... Did you get arrested previously for wearing a loud shirt in a built up area? Walking on the cracks in the pavement? Having an offensive wife?'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -
There's at least 14 different types of cameras used on uk roads. Some flash, many don't.Also, I've never seen the camera flashing, not even once.
Cameras at motorway roadworks are often (but not limited to) SPECS average speed cams which measure your speed over a set distance. They don't flash ..

I am not saying I did not commit the offences, I am simply saying that I've got all of them after 2 months instead of the 14day period. And I also don't understand why they said I have 6 offences the first time I called and then, a few days later the number grew up to 10. Is there a processing period or something?0

As long as the NIP went to the registered keeper within 14 days, all is legal.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
You're not listening. The NIP only has to go to the registered keeper within 14 days, you're not the keeper so all is legit.I am not saying I did not commit the offences, I am simply saying that I've got all of them after 2 months instead of the 14day period. I do understand. They did not go to the registered keeper within 14 days. They were issued on the 17th of July, not in May as they should have. They were issued in my name, but they've sent them to the registered keeper and the keeper sent them to me within days. I got them after 8 days from them being issued. The problem is that the offences occurred in May, not July, that's the thing that confuses me.0

You have no idea when the NIP was first issued, the one you have could be the 2nd, 3rd or even 4th for one offence. Rental cars are often leased from another company altogether. Lease companies sometimes use finance companies to purchase the vehicles. The NIP chain can quite long sometimes. They did not go to the registered keeper within 14 days. They were issued on the 17th of July, not in May as they should have.0 -

You're not thinking this through.
1/ If they have your name, then someone has given it to them identifying you as the driver - that means that there had been previous correspondence.
2/ You say it is a "company rental" - does that mean that your company rent/lease it from someone and then give it to you for use? If so then the original NIP will have gone to the rental/lease company, who will have returned it saying to contact your company, your company will have then sent it back identifying you as the driver, it will then have been re-issued in your name.
All of that takes time so you are most probably clutching at straws with the 14 day deadline. Probably best focussing your efforts on a good solicitor to try and keep your license...All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
Yes. I have. The keeper received them on the 17th of July, which is 2 months after the offence was commited.0
