CIFAS marker and business

After an attempt by fraudsters to gain access to my business banking account I voluntarily put myself into CIFAS. Some months after this,
I applied to switch my account to Metro bank. I bought in all the ID and paperwork requested only to be turned down without a reason. As everything else with the business is in fine fettle and my personal credit rating is healthy I can only point to CIFAS as the reason for being declined. They didn't ask for more proof, just a flat no and goodbye. Am I missing something or is CIFAS causing me more trouble than it's worth?

It's not the protective registration causing you an issue.

What do you mean by voluntarily put yourself into CIFAS?

Do you mean you paid the £25 for 2 years?

Was the Metro bank account your personal bank account, or a business one?
I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com
  • I'd DSAR both CIFAS & N Hunter to see if anyone else has put you on there (involuntarily!).

If they've turned you down for protective registration that's against scheme rules - but given Metro's "issues", I suppose you can't rule a mistake like that out.
