Neighbour Anxiety

Hi all,

I previously did a post regarding our nightmare neighbour who was causing me and my partner grief. As her behaviour is carrying on I've started to realise that this 1. affecting my relationship as I am constantly on edge in terms of how much noise my partner makes as i dont want to unsettle next door and 2. every time i hear a bang whether im at home or at someone elses house or even just the street i jump or i panic . This is happening all the time no matter where i am and who im with which i think is repercussions of how next door is with her constantly banging on the wall when she decides to be a pain - i just want to know what i should do with the anxiety and the fact that im always on edge and will jump out of my skin every time i hear a bang??

Any ideas??

Thanks

Can you move house and move away from the problem?

I have been in your position enduring nearly 8 years of hell from above neighbours. I wont go into detail but the police who were involved told me that it would affect my relationship with my husband if I stayed in that house and we would part because of it. I was taken aback by this but.

How true that was. I was stressed by what was happening but equally stressed at trying to keep my other half calm as his anger was only aggravating the situation. We moved eventually with help from the police. The problem with this is that you are constantly waiting for the problems to start. Get out if you can and do see your GP also.

Put on some loud happy music and dance to it while shouting at the top of your voice. Accustom yourself to loud noise instead of hiding from it.

Is this not likely to aggrevate the problem neighbours more which will just worsen the problem?

Keep a noise/disturbance diary, record the neighbour's noise if you can and contact the council (and the police, for all the use they are) Keep on and on contacting them until they take some damned notice. It is arduous, stressful and should not be necessary but the only way to deal with ignorant chavs (short of taking the law into your own hands) is to document everything for what feels like forever.

If this neighbour rents, find his/her LL's details and complain to them (Land registry/the council can help with this) If they own, it is more difficult but the council could conceivably still have them evicted (or so ours told us) More likely, they could take steps to curb this behaviour.

Believe me, if you don't stand up for yourself in this situation, nobody else will; I know.
