Ah, thank-you! That's marvellous to hear after what was, for all intents and purposes, a rather intense weekend of reading, writing and re-writing! A sizeable portion was written by yourself, CM, and a lot of other bits were either heavily based on or taken directly from other statements (special credit to NorfolkBOI, who has an amazing statement out there!). But got myself in a right muddle trying to read all the various surrounding laws to make sure I was confident that what I was writing actually made sense, and that I'd be able to argue it in court!

Anyway, thank-you so much. Could not possibly have done this type of work without all the help on this forum. I don't know how you all do it, and manage to keep up.

Right-o, have my court date, and looks like either the parking company or myself should have a gift of a court ruling just in time for Christmas. Is there anything I particularly need to do between now and the hearing?

Also, can I ask a question? I have been receiving private messages from someone asking for help, claiming to have been charged in the same car park. I am not sure how they know which car park I could be referring to in all of my posts because I've gone quite far out of my way to ensure that I remove all references to myself, the car park and even the city. I am aware that parking companies read these forums, but am wondering if they ever use underhand tactics like trying to get information from people through the private messaging area?

The user is asking me to email my photos as they are saying they need to make a decision as to whether they defend a claim that's been made. They have no posts on this forum, so I can't tell anything about what's happened to them, but they say they can't get their own photos as they would need to travel 30 minutes to get to the car park. The first message I received from them was on Tuesday 19th November, and the last one was on Monday 25th November, telling me they had until Tuesday to submit their defence (so it's odd that they were still feeling they needed to see photos to decide whether or not to defend with only a day before the deadline - even their first message to me was only a week beforehand).

If they are genuine, then I am surprised there has been nothing posted publicly on this forum to date. If they are a parking company, then I don't know what they want from me, as they already have my email address, details, and my witness statement exhibits.

This all seems unusual to me, so I've basically said to start their own thread, get help from the community, and if they appear to be an honest user rather than an undercover parking company then I'll be happy to help.

Any thoughts from anyone on here? Does this sound genuine?

They must have a user name to be able to log in to the forum and send PMs. If they have a user name you can search for threads/posts by that name and then you can see how long they've been a member and how many posts they have accrued. It could be genuine but you are right to be cautious and you need to check out their history.

Thanke Le_Kirk. They do have a username (I'm just trying to avoid using it seeing as they haven't posted in public themselves first - maybe I'm being too considerate. Should I just "out" them?). It looks like they joined on 17th November 2019, two days before they first contacted me and 9 days before their defence was due. They have 0 posts, and were last active yesterday evening.

Does sound weird. I would do what you have done, suggest they post in the open forum (as they will get more help as you said) and then go into ignore mode.

Nice one - thanks Le_Kirk. If anyone else has heard of a parking company doing this kind of stuff, could they please chime in? Seems very odd to me!

We've not seen anything much on that front. There might have been isolated incidences in the past, but nowadays a lot of it is little more than conspiracy theory.

Ah, ok. Thanks very much. I may ask them to introduce themselves on this current forum, as well as opening up their own. Then if all seems ok, I'll consider giving them a hand.
